Any views - Nottting Hill and Ealing girls school in Ealing

Does anyone have experience of NHEGS? I've heard really good things about it but 1 not so great. Anyone got any experience of it? How academic and hoe impossible to get into is it?!

My sister was there 10 years ago so it may have changed.

It wasn't that academic - not in the NLCS/Habs/St Paul's league. Fairly good pastoral care and not pushy, it always seemed quite a happy school IYSWIM. Or certainly compared to Habs which is where I was.

It's not that impossible to get into. You obviously have to pass the exam but I believe that their 'pass' mark is lower than others in the group. That means it was a fairly popular reserve choice, and a lot of my sister's contemporaries in primary seemed to get offers after other girls who had applied turned the place down according to gossipy mothers at the school gate.

Thanks so much. Someone said that there were 300 applicants for 45 places! Does anyone know girls there now or trying to get in?

I know girls there but only in the sense that they are daughters of people I see once in a while. Very happy, but quite serious types. Good at music and sport but not ditsy. Not a school for show-offs. All parents of aforesaid children quite serious and bookish too, so that might have something to do with it.
It is academically selective as you have to pass a test to get from primary to secondary school, even if you are already in the junior part.
Anyway, I don't really know, certainly never heard anything bad about it, except that there was lots of homework (which girls soon got used to) in early years, and provided a safe haven for girls to bloom academically without bothering too much about makeup etc...

Remember of that 300 you'll have Ealing and surrunding based girls trying for St Paul's, Habs, St Helen's etc. 8 girls at my sister's prep took the exam with her and only she went and 2 didn't get in so fairly good odds back then.

Newish Head (4 years or so), said to be very impressive and hear from friends she has upped the ante quite a bit. Excellent results so must be academic. Nice, friendly, normal girls. Have boys but it would be on my list if I had girls.

That's great thanks! My DD in y 2 so thinking of her doing the 7 + entry - I've heard vast majority from junior go up to the secondary. My DD at a state school and I'm quite worried about completion at 11+. Not sure she'll get in at 7 but thought worth a try. She seems up for it but worried a. Puts pressure on her and b. if she does get it and we go for it and then find its not place for her we committed to the long haul..... In a dilemma!

Don't worry about b - although most will go up to seniors at 7, some don't for various reasons :)

It's worth at least trying.

Agree it's worth a try if you like what you see at Y3 and above. Also hear almost all go up (and want to because like what they hear about Y7 and above). Good luck!
