Best state schools in Surrey

We are in Woking and probably going to send DS private (he already is), as the schools near us are not great.

However we might as figure we might as well fill in the form.

We are putting down Gordon's, Tiffin Boys, he probably won't get into any of them, and that's fine, so we are really looking for 'outside shots' that are outstanding, on the off chance he gets in, rather than being interested in anywhere less than wonderful, as we'll just go private.

LOL at not keen on Southwark as linked to scary-ness. Kingsdale shares a boundary with Dulwich prep, overlooks the playing fields of Dulwich College and is a wide leafy avenue flanked with what are probably amongst the most expensive houses in London. Southwark is a hellhole.

And more to the point, a hell of a commute from Surrey.

DfE website has lots of data on all the surrey schools, can compare by different things, eg GCSe results, "value added", you could look at that, then the admission criteria, and work out where you would need to live etc to get in.

Doubt that commuting would be a realistic option for the more popular non-selective schools as they'd be unlikely to have spaces.

Elevenplus forum has loads of info on the selective schools.

surrey council info on admissions isn't great, lots of schools are their own admissions authorities, so info (eg on catchments, distance) isn't available from the council's website, have to go direct to schools. Rubbish!

Kingsdale - lots of threads on S London internet forums about their admissions and other stuff, sounds controversial.
