How much homework per day in Year 7?

what is expected at your school? Aibu to think that 1.5 hours a day is quite a lot at this age?

My ds has just started grammar school. Spends about 2 hrs in the evening & all morning at weekends. Seems to be the norm.

Blimey, needsomesunshine - I went to a top stream academic school in the Netherlands (all secondary education is selective over there) and didn't have anything like that in Yr 7. Nor even in 6th form! And I got seriously good results.

30 minutes to an hour I guess. Odd longer bits at weekends.

It gets better, books only need covering once and PHSE posters and similar stuff tend to get done in break and on the bus.
I know better than to enquire too deeply.

DS is meant to get an hour and a half a night (3 subjects). He is taking much longer, 2 to 3 hours usually. Am hoping it will settle down when he realises everything doesn't have to be completely perfect and copied out into neat etc.

I think it was 11 pieces last week. It is meant to take 20 mins a piece, but some took more.

One took much more because the teacher asked them to research something, then took away the books they had written down the things they were meant to be researching. I was a bit fed up because I spent ages trying to find what DS was looking for on-line too, and failed. He did eventually find it, but had wasted hours by then.

He's top set and I think the lower sets get less.

Supposed to be 3 x 20 mins. Some take more than 20 mins, some less. Not always set. Not too bad really at the moment. Seems to actually be max 1 hour. IME it ratcheted up in Year 8/9 when separate sciences and extra languages kicked in.

DS2 is in yr 7 and doesn't have anywhere near 1.5 hours a night! That's a lot imo.
