Lockers...

Paid for before summer hols (letter said to be returned before they started new year). 2 weeks into school now and DS hasn't been given a locker yet.

Wondered if this seems right? Same with your DC?

DS in Y7 and I'm I don't want to be seen as a pain-in-the-arse mum contacting school about this if this is normal/to be expected?

Thanks

What is your DS being told by his form tutor about locker allocations?

SomePeopleSayImBonkers · 15/09/2012 23:00

Don't know. He doesn't always listen and focus what is being said in school and can be quite oblivious to what's going on around him. Hence why I'm putting the feelers out here to see if others have lockers allocated.

I've asked him if anything has been mentioned or if he's noticed anyone else using a locker. He says that he hasn't noticed, but due to what I've said above, this doesn't mean that nothing has been said or done!

if it was paid for in advance, them there should be a locker sitting there waiting.

My guess is that there is a notice board somewhere that says "Go and collect your locker keys from Mrs Scroggins"

Thanks for your replies. Think I'll try to encourage DS to ask his form tutor on Monday. If he keeps forgetting or whatever reason he gives for not asking I'll have to send a note in through his school planner.

They sometimes have problems getting last year's cleaned out and keys back whch can cause a delay.

SomePeopleSayImBonkers · 15/09/2012 23:57

That's true Celticlassie, hadn't thought of that. Thanks Smile

At my school lockers were only allocated late last week.
So I would think your DS will get his tomorrow?

SomePeopleSayImBonkers · 16/09/2012 16:33

Thanks directoroflegacy...hoping that he'll get his soon then!

Only paid for it & filled in form on first or 2nd day of term & DS got it straight away. But DS is y8.

Is a school staff person supposed to read their student planners? I honestly didn't know that. I assumed I had to rely on DS or phoning the office to get any message thru.

DeWe · 16/09/2012 17:22

Dd1's been told that they're waiting for older pupils to return the keys. Hmm

SomePeopleSayImBonkers · 16/09/2012 17:51

lljkk - I haven't a clue about communication yet with new school tbh! I know that we are expected to sign his planner every week and form tutor or someone also signs it every week. I guessed that if I wrote a note in it and got DS to show form tutor, the message would get through? Maybe I have this wrong. I guess every school operates differently.

DeWe - beginning to think that this could be the case with DS's school. Celticlassie pointed this out earlier and it hadn't really occurred to me. I guess with DS being Y7, he's more likely to get a locker from someone who has just left the school. Assuming that it easier to re-allocate the same locker to same child if they are wanting it every year.

It was all so much easier in primary when we could go up to the headteacher on the playground in the afternoons and ask our questions directly lol

We got a letter about lockers last week, they paid on Tuesday and got given the keys the same afternoon. Apparently, rest of school got a letter last week stating that lockers had to be emptied or paid for by the end of monday, and the caretaker would be going round with a bolt cutter to cut off the padlocks on any that were not on his list!

bubby64 · 16/09/2012 20:18

Somepeople, I have already found it is easier to email any questions direct to the teacher concerned, I have now done this twice, and on both occasions had a reply back the same day. Mind you, they positivly encorage you to do this at my boys school.

minesawine · 16/09/2012 20:20

I paid for my DS's locker at the beginning of August and he still has not been given a key. The empty lockers are sitting outside his classroom whilst he has to carry his school bag and PE kit around the school three days a week.

I did call the school and they said the lockers had been delivered WITHOUT keys and they dont know when they will arrive.

What is frustrating is they dont tell the kids what PE activity will take place on the next lesson, so they have to bring in everything each time and it is really heavy for the kids to carry.

I will be nagging the school regularly until the keys arrive.

SomePeopleSayImBonkers · 16/09/2012 20:56

Similar situation here minesawine, although I don't think it's a case of brand new lockers being brought in. But yes, him having to lug his whole PE kit around twice a week can't be fun, thankfully he hasn't complained about it....yet! He also hasn't been told or doesn't remember what activity he has in PE.

At £10 a year, I feel the privilege is pricey too.

bubby64 - good idea about emailing. Have only got an email addy for the SENCO, so might try her. She seems very nice. Have got a 'meet the form tutor' evening sometime in October, so will bring up communication issues with her then, unless something more important crops up in the meantime!
