At our local high school the kids have been told that they will be unable to do any resits if they fail their exams in 2013.....does anyone know why this is please. I does seem very unfair.

You're not going to get any replies here. I've asked MNHQ to move the thread to a more appropriate topic.

Hi there
We have moved this to our secondary education topic to help OP
Best of luck to your DC

OrangeLily · 14/09/2012 22:31

Standard in Scotland! No resits ever! Very few appeals allowed now either.

gingeroots · 15/09/2012 09:14

Are we talking GCSEs ?

senua · 15/09/2012 10:41

It does seem very unfair.

Isn't that why they changed the rules? To stop this culture / expectation that you keep re-taking exams until you get the grade that you are 'entitled' to.
As grandma used to say "Do it once and do it right".

FWIW I come from a position of DS messing up one of his GCSEs because he didn't read the rubric properly. He won't do that again (figuratively or literallyGrin).

We are waiting for an Engllish Language re-mark, my DD being one of the pupils who would've got a C if the paper had been sat in January but got a D in June. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I did hear yesterday about a re-mark which added another 14 marks to the paper! This is very worrying, why are they not marked properly in the first place?

TalkShowsOnMute · 15/09/2012 11:48

Senua, I kind of agree.

My DS totally messed up a Statistics AS paper by completely failing to spot an 11-mark question on the back of the paper. It probably cost him dearly in that he might have got a B instead of a C.

On the other hand, I'm investigating some unlucky GCSE results for my DD, so I'm a fine one to talk about 'do it once, do it right'!

Sorry - I didn't post the above in this thread, I haven't even read it! Somehow this has materialised here - please ignore and I will copy it to where it was supposed to go!

Gove decided it was wrong, and contributing to grade inflation which he also believes is wrong (which is a different debate).

But just to clarify, that DC can retake the whole qualification, what they can't do is resit individual components.
