When to look around secondaries? Herts.

Trying very very hard not to get dragged into the secondary school panic in our area, but I just wondered when is a sensible time to look around secondaries?

We have good states nearby, but all are part selective (Watford Boys, Rickmansworth etc), so wondering whether to look around the Private schools this year, so that I at least know whether they are an option.

Merchant Taylors would be nearest private, but I gave absolutely no personal experience of private schools, and I'm not sure where to start.

DS is in year for - should I look this year, or next?

Thanks all.

We looked at secondary schools in Year 5 as it gave time to consider options, entrance exams, etc You can then go and look again in Yr 6 to finalise choice, etc.

no reason why you can't go round some now just to get a feel for them but if you want your DS to have an input as well then take him round at the appropriate time.

MTs is a very good school, but very selective and expects alot from their boys. They get good results though.

Their entrance exams are in January for year 9 intake, but there are interviews to take place before. Look around now, and expect to sit all your exams in year 6.
