Is this inappropriate for a teacher talking to a year 7 class or am I an old fud?

Bunch of 11 year olds, just started obv. Teacher introduces herself and says if anyone messes about in her lesson she will make the girls tongue the boys and the boys tongue the girls . Am I alone in thinking this is so inappropriate.

If it was just my DDs passing on this info I would have perhaps thought they misunderstood but they had friends here tonight who said the same and couldn't believe it!

That's appalling! I am a secondary teacher and I would be if I heard of a colleague saying that kind of thing.

If it has been reported back to you verbatim than yes, totally but I'd check the facts first.

She may have said kissing which isn't much better but if she was trying to get the yuk factor it would suffice.

Sounds like a very odd thing to say, so odd I'm thinking it must have been something else.

Y7 can be very imaginative, feel free to contact the teacher and ask her for an explanation. I can't imagine it being said myself.

Agree, very inappropriate to say to any age and I would ring the school and let them know. They will investigate whether it really happened and if it did, they will be grateful you let them know.

It was a Spanish teacher, just thinking of the accent and poss words that she used instead that the kids misinterpreted.

You are going to ask more children? Why? Ask the teacher.

Quite aside from the meaning of the word (we'll assume that something got lost in translation) why does she think that it is appropriate to stir up gender wars?

What! There are so many things wrong with that, it's impossible to know where to start.

Maybe she doesn't speak english fluently?

Do check - I've had kids think I said odd things because they didn't understand my accent (I teach 100 miles from where I grew up so not crazily different or anything!)

Turn? Maybe she was threatening to pair them up and said if you don't behave I will tell girls to turn to boys and boys to turn to girls?
