Does anyone know how long it takes for an AS level remark to come back? It's biology with AQA.

We're still waiting on AQA English Lit A2 - think AQA have been inundated since the GCSE fiasco

Thanks. Yes good point that AQA in particular will be a bit busy at the moment.
We haven't requested it yet. Just wanted to know it would be back before she submits her UCAS form in October.

Wow! Well done to your DC. Do you know why the difference was so huge? DD only needs 1 UMS point which is less than one raw mark to take her to an A, so I hope it's going to be £45 well spent.

Good heavens eatyourveg, i've never seen such a change. We've had a few A2 remarked with some going up and some staying the same. Apple is it worth the £45, if only 1 ums she can easily make that up next year.

AppleCrumbleAndFish · 07/09/2012 22:25

Loshad, she's not continuing with biology to A2 and if she can make it up to an A she will have straight As. Do you know the answer about how long a remark takes? She hasn't requested it yet, but plans to on Monday.

not long is the answer, my own ds had his A2 remark back with 5 working days and all my A2 students have theirs back, i would expect for As's rather longer though as uni places are not dependent on them yet, but the exam boards will know that students will need correct grades for UCAS. AQA quote 3-6 weeks, i've not known it take as long as 6.

RedBeret · 08/09/2012 07:50

loshad. Did any of your students go down a grade? Interested to know about re-marking. How many got theirs re-marked and what was the change?

Am I the only one thinking that if one has a re-mark and the grade goes up, they should be refunded the cost of the re-mark? Afterall it would be the examining board error, not that on the part of the student/parent paying for it?

eatyourveg · 08/09/2012 10:15

took just over a week for it to come back once it went back to AQA. 50 ums rise - school paid for the script to be returned and for the re-mark

Loshad · 09/09/2012 00:15

at the moment usually students pay, my own ds1 no change in grade, my own students - 4 remarks, 2 no change, 2 up a grade.
Would never suggest a remark to a student who was anywhere near the lower grade boundary, we had one remarked in jan and they dropped 6 ums, but not enough to drop a grade. Only tend to suggest remarks if within 10 ums of next grade up.
