My DS is starting 6th form college this week, I have never had any of mine through the A level system before, he's a bright lad but I worry about the work load etc - he studying all of the sciences and another subject - he got A*s A's B's and a couple of C's at GCSE level. Help please!!

He'll need lever arch files, probably one for each subject, dividers, hole punch, maybe plastic wallets to keep his work organised.

As a rough guide he should be doing an hour's study out of school for each hour he's in lessons.

He'll have module exams in January for which he'll receive the results in March. This will give him a good idea of whether he's on track or needs a kick up the arse for the June exams.

A good idea is to have a folder for current work that he carries around and files at home to file finished units/topics. They fill up quite quickly.
Good idea to get into a routine for filing and keepings notes tidy right from the start before it builds up.

Also point out that study periods are just that and not in fact .... free periods. That way he may be able to fit in a social life and pass exams.

ditto to Noblegiraffe's advice too.
