what subjects does a general paper cover - dd wants to go for a yr 9 scholarship

My daughter sat this exam 2.5 years ago and she suggests that your dd reads the newspapers/watches news on TV & practises writing essays. My dd was asked to write about topical subjects (at the time it was Heathrow's new terminal & green issues). It was essay questions and a report with questions to answer.
