Marking my place. And enjoying a Wine. We're waiting for Standard Grade and Higher this year. Double the stress excitement.

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 29/07/2012 20:09

Highers here, thanks for Wine good luck everyone. ds has decided he's a bit nervous now

AnnunziATTAGIRL · 29/07/2012 20:16

Hello everyone! Two Highers and SGs here too. DS2 is most worried about Higher English, and he's hoping for the 5 As. DS3 is more relaxed, he'd like all Bs.

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 29/07/2012 20:19

I'm in, have 2 waiting, one highers, one SG's.

Marks place

AgentProvocateur · 06/08/2012 07:17

Everyone ready for tomorrow? Both DSs are away, so they've asked me to open the envelopes. I think I'll come home from work at lunchtime, rather than wait till 6pm.

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 06/08/2012 12:34

Yep, waiting on nerves here, our postie doesn't turn up til late afternoon though.

Good luck everyone.

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 06/08/2012 16:08

11am tomorrow here. They are going to e-mail me immediately as I'll be at work

DC are both extremely stressy, wish I'd thought to take tomorrow off. Poor wee souls, I remember the nerves well.

mrsmplus3 · 07/08/2012 06:54

Good morning parents! I've been awake since 5am but our postman doesn't come until around 11am here. I MUST try and get back to sleep, even for an hour. My teenager is still sound asleep, thank goodness.
We are waiting on SG and Intermediate 2 results here (5th yr, Scotland).

mrsmplus3 · 07/08/2012 06:57

Oops, I meant waiting on 4th yr results, now going into 5th yr.
It's too early ...

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 07/08/2012 08:25

Grin mrs, I thought I was confuzzled then, waiting on end of 5th year results highers, we'll be last as quite rural and at the end of the postie route grr.

Mrsjay · 07/08/2012 10:19

DD is only going into 4th year and we have an sqa envelope I am confused Hmm had dd1 highers last year I hope they all get the results they are hoping for , >>> off to wake dd up to open her envelope.

Namechangeabc · 07/08/2012 13:15

Mrsjay, if she's doing computing, she'll get module results at the end of 3rd year.

Tale of two halves here. DC1 has done bewilderingly badly, really don't understand it, DC2 has done very well in her Standard Grades.

Will be phoning the school soon to see if we can appeal for DC1. (Expected a B, though was hoping for an A in one Higher and he's got a "no award" Shock

AgentProvocateur · 07/08/2012 13:21

Happy here - DS2 got 8 1s, and DS1 got elwood enough highers for the course he'll apply for, but like namechangeabc, not so good grades as he was expecting.

AgentProvocateur · 07/08/2012 13:22

Elwood= enough!

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 07/08/2012 13:24

No award in English so will have to appeal the prelim result, the english exam had everyone in tears though. Lower grade than needed in another so need to speak to school. The rest are good but not as good as he should be getting.

Overall he needs a rocket start for next year.

Mrsjay · 07/08/2012 13:24

it was for art it is modular namechange Smile dd1 got a no award last year on her business admin she was expecting a c at least got a B in the prelim she did appeal and lost Sad

are your higher teens 5th or 6th years ? well done with the results though even if it wasnt what was expected

NaturalWinningNaturesTeamGB · 07/08/2012 13:34

Mines going into 6th, he's passed all the modules and the prelim but not the final and says he won't get it on appeal. The school is opening for them to go in and see what can be done.

Namechangeabc · 07/08/2012 14:10

DC1 is 6th year. No award for Higher Psychology. He got a C in the prelim, but Psychology was one of the last Highers - he had 10 days with nothing to do but revise Psychology. He was chatting to us about it, and we got the impression that he was on top of the subject. So to get a no award is baffling.

He got a no award for maths last year, got a C second time round this year. He got a B in the prelim, so again, disappointed with a C.

DC2 got 7 1s and 2 2s in her Standards.

KatieisScarlettinSpandex · 07/08/2012 15:08

DD 2 A's 2 B's and 1 C in her Highers (5th year results)

DS 6 1's and 2 2's in his SG's (4th Year results)

All very relieved and happy in the Scarlett House.

Congratulations to everyone xxx

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/08/2012 15:28

Ds 4 As (maths, biology, chemistry and modern studies) and one C (English).
He's away on a work placement at the moment and phoned me at 6 am in tears about the C. Sad
He want's to do medicine, and will be doing advanced Highers in Maths and Chemistry next year as well as Higher pyhsics, but insists that only 5 A's would be could enough to get into medical school.
Please tell me he's wrong, any teachers/experts out there and I can reassure him, his English has never been great but he expected a B at least.

AgentProvocateur · 07/08/2012 15:32

Im not a teacher or an expert, but I do remember at a parent's information evening the HT saying that you needed 5As at first sitting to get into MOST courses for medicine. Changed days - my best friend got in with an A, 3Bs and a C back in the early 80s.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/08/2012 15:42

Thanks Agent.
He's right then, though it does seem that Aberdeen will accept 4 A's and a C.
I'm so gutted for him, they do make the English so hard these days and in the long run, why he needs to be an expert on literature to qualify for medicine is beyond me.
He's a smart articulate kid, I don't get why he didn't get a B at least.

AgentProvocateur · 07/08/2012 15:53

Could he appeal? What were his NABs and his prelim results like?

JollyHockeyStick · 07/08/2012 15:57

Both St Andrews and Dundee might consider him for medicine with those grades. Edinburgh definitely wouldn't though.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/08/2012 16:18

I've told him to appeal, he got a B in the prelims and in his standards.
No, I know he won't get Edinburgh but surely if he gets advanced maths, chemistry and a physics higher next year, it will make a difference.
It's just so annoying that because he can't dissect Shakespeare or modern literature to the correct standards, but is a whizz at all the sciences and got an A in Modern Studies (so not a total science nerd) that it will preclude him from Medicine.
And he just goes to an ordinary high school, with me a single parent who has lived on benefits (though he does have a relationship with his dad) and the competition will be all the naice privately educated kids.
Ok, that's unfair, but I feel like a rant Sad Angry
