Trinity School, Croydon - uniform

I'm going to get my DS kitted out soon and wondered if anyone had any tips concerning the uniform. There seems to be quite alot of it - especially PE - does he really need everything? He's starting in the Junior form if that makes any difference. Also the special PE name tags - mine have come through blue with yellow writing - is this right? There's no mention of a lab coat/art/DT overall on the list either - will he not need this in the Junior form, or do they not exist at all?
Grateful for any help Smile

Hi Seeline,
My ds has recently finished 2nd Form at Trinity. The uniform list is scary isn't it?

Re the tapes - blue with yellow writing is correct. Surprised re the lab coat as ds has one but he joined in 1st Form not JBugs so it might be to do with that.

Games stuff - he only needs white rugby shorts if he is in a team (ds has never needed them!!!!) but they use the blue shorts for Games every week. If I remember rightly they can double up the white Games and PE shorts, though. He does need a separate Games top (the sizing of which is bizarre) and PE top.

I didn't bother getting separate indoor white shoes - he just wears his white trainers - and no-one has ever batted an eyelid!

Save yourself a few pounds by not buying the grey jumper with the logo from Hewitts - he can wear a plain black jumper instead.

Hope this helps - btw your ds will love it, it is a fab school and my ds is really happy there.

Thanks for getting back Caoimhe - very helpful. Glad the name tapes are right - I wasn't expecting the bright yellow!! I doubt my DS will use half the PE kit if he can possibly help it - I think he is more drawn to the musical opportunities Grin
I won't bother with shirts and trousers from Hewitts - I think that's OK?
Lab coat will remain a mystery until September!

Lord, don't buy shirts from Hewitts - go to Tesco or Asda!!! Grin

You only need trousers from Hewitts if you want to get charcoal grey exactly but boys turn up in all shades from grey to black and all seem to be acceptable!!

Only get the logo'd stuff from Hewitts (and the PE bag of course).

The yellow on the labels will get grubby very quickly so won't be so glaring!!!

He won't be able to escape PE and Games and they are very hot on having a note if a boy is excused - ds got asked for his note by three different teachers on one occasion. Hmm

Music is great at the school with plenty of performing opportunities - ds did consider the choir (and his music teacher was keen on him joining) but I was concerned about the amount of time it takes up, especially as he already play two instruments.

I hope your ds is excited! Smile There are zillions of clubs to join so try to persuade him to join a couple (maybe even the never ending Dalek Building Club).

Seeline · 26/07/2012 17:17

I think he is beginning to get excited. Starting a year early was a bit of a shock (not what we'd planned but hey...)
I think he realises PE must be endured but he has limited experience of sports in general so I am hoping he may find something he enjoys (good at may be pushing things Grin
It's the singing he really wants to do, although has put in for bassoon lessons too......
I am hoping he will take the opportunity to join clubs but he can be a backward in coming forward unless I'm there to really push encourage him so fingers crossed.

Ha, ha - they all need a bit of a push!!

JBugs is great as it is a small group - I wish I had put ds in then rather than 1st Form. Staff do encourage them to get involved and they check everyone out as a possible for choir!! Smile

He can come and go from clubs - he won't be made to go every week to things so he can try stuff out.

Ds is not a sportsman by any stretch of the imagination but he endures it - luckily they are doing more football now which he likes.

Obviously JBugs get split up at the end of the year and then all the classes get mixed up at the end of 2nd Form - they all seem to have friends in other classes though so it seems to work okay (says she with fingers crossed for September when ds is in his new class!! Confused)

Good luck. Grin

Hi there,

I too am a new Trinity mum. My DS will start in the 1st form in Sept - he is so looking forward to it!

Re. the lab coat mystery - the school gave me a 2011 uniform list when I was there a while back and I am sure it was on there but it is not on the 2012 list. I spoke to a mum at the school who said that the her DS has never worn his as the school seem to have their own supply in the labs? Maybe Caoimhe can clarify? I picked one up at the nearly new sale just in case!

Also another query for Caoimhe - I picked up a spare PE top at the nearly new sale recently but when I went to Hewitts today it appears to have changed to a new off-white cricket top. Can my DS still wear the old style one if his new one gets lost or is in the wash etc? Just wondering if I have to fork out another £22 for a spare one!

Hewitts didn't have many blazers in stock, which surprised me and I have had to order my DS's size. Despite this though, the staff were very helpful.

Good luck with your uniform shopping Seeline!

Caoimhe · 28/07/2012 14:06

Hi bananadrama,
I guess they must have removed the lab coat from the uniform list then. Ds has definitely used his, though, but maybe some teachers are more particular about it than others. He has never mentioned teachers having their own supply!!!! Shock

Have they changed the PE top? They haven't told any of us "oldies"!! Ds will continue to use his old top as it is still big on him after two years of use. Grin I'm sure there won't be any problem in using the one you have bought.

I had to buy a new blazer for ds and Hewitts only had one in his size! When he joined the school they didn't have any tracksuit tops in his size and I had to order it. The sports stuff is sized from "massive" to "gigantic" - I am anticipating his rugby top lasting until he leaves! Smile

Good luck to your ds, bananadrama! Smile
