URGENT Advice re DD not doing AS exam last minute

Hi, I really hope someone can offer some advice today. DD is doing her AS exams over the next couple of weeks and is predicted As in 3 subjects with a C grade in Chemistry. She was adamant that she wanted to do Chemistry at AS level against the advice of 6th form (one of her weakest subjects at gcse but she enjoyed it) and she plans to drop this subject and continue with the other 3 to A2 level.
DD got a U grade in her January module but she was told not to worry as the results were overall very disappointing with lots of girls resitting that module this week before unit 2 next week. Quite a few girls actually dropped Chemistry when the results came out in March, deciding to do their 4th AS level next year. DD decided to take teacher's advice and continue with it.

Today, she is almost in meltdown, convinced she will get an overall fail in August results and wants to contact school tomorrow and not take the exam - this is because she is worried that if she fails then she has to submit that grade on her uni application and it's not going to look good. She only has to achieve a pass in this 4th AS level for her chosen course.
I suppose my question is, will it look worse for her to have a fail for this AS on her UCAS application than to only submit the other 3 AS grades against most students 4 subjects?
Hope this makes sense and thanks for reading.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I would think she'll have to take the exam now as she has been entered. If she doesn't do it won't she just get a U anyway at this stage? Hopefully someone more knowledgable than me will be along soon.

From what I understand, one only submits the subject(s) on the UCAS form only if one has achieved a grade (pass) for that subject even if it's an 'E' grade. And if one fails a subject, a 'U' grade, then one hasn't achieved anything for that particular subject and therefore need not include it on the UCAS form.

Since she only needs a pass, I'd say go for it and sit the exam. She may be pleasantly surprised in August and pass! And if she fails, then just don't include it on the UCAS form as she hasn't achieved anything on that subject.

Thanks so far, that would be great if she doesn't have to submit the grade if she does fail. I am trying to tell her that while it's just a prediction, she has been predicted a C and it's quite a difference from a C to a U (although I'm not saying it won't happen).
