I am after advise on what we should do
My daughter is in yr5 and is quite bright, already level 5 and expecting level 6 in everything in year 6 sats
we dont know whether to apply to our nearest grammar school for her as its not under our LEA. we are cheshire and the grammar is in wirral. There is a school bus from here to there so getting there and back is not a problem and its only 15 minutes away by car.
The problem is if we apply we have to apply to both the LEA's and the one we live in (cheshire) we have to put down the grammar as our first choice even though it is under wirral and then local high schools as 2nd or 3rd choice. This is what is worrying me as if she passess the 11+ she is not guarenteed a place at the grammar school as they have said they allocate places by distance after they have the names of all children who have passed.
so if she doesnt get in we dont have a 1st choice school for our area and i have heard that the school that would be our 1st choice for our area never take children who have had their school as second place as they fill up with the ones that put it as 1st choice.
That would leave us with our 3rd choice school which is over subscribed so probably wont get in even though its is our catchment school as it would of been our 3rd choice
so i am worried she will then be allocated the worst high school in our area where grades are awful and behaviour is not the best
Do you think its to much of a risk applying for the grammar school and we should play safe.
Also i have heard people tutor their children for the 11+. Have we left it to late as she will sit the 11+ this september and we have not done anything towards it
sorry its so long but i really dont know what to do for the best
