Here we go........hold on tight!

My DD is in Yr 10, but is doing 'modules' which I think is like a controlled assessment, and counts towards her final GCSE mark next year. This is all new to me. She had a Welsh written paper today, which went better than she had expected, but she finds it very hard, as most of the others are native Welsh speakers, and she is not. :(

cardibach · 28/05/2012 19:04

Modules are the actual exams like Y11 are taking, but they can often have the opportunity to take them in Y10 and resit in Y11 if necessary, Primrose. If she can do well, it'll take some of the pressure of next summer for both of you! Good luck to her.

cardibach · 28/05/2012 19:06

Oh, and my non native speaking daughter did Welsh first language today too -she'll be fine: if they have entered her for this she has already shown an ability to write the language as well as most native speakers. Reason for pride! Well done your DD

glaurung · 28/05/2012 20:28

Dd's exam went well today she thinks - big relief since she's been distance learning (ie no lessons, and not much anything else) since October.

English language tomorrow (thankfully she doesn't have to do Welsh - that would be tough).

Primrose123 · 28/05/2012 21:03

Thanks Cardi, that makes it a bit clearer! She's not feeling too confident, as they've just had a new teacher who is great, but it turns out the previous teacher hadn't done enough work with them so they're doing a lot of catching up. The new teacher is wonderful, she's staying after school with them to do extra. I don't think DD is doing Welsh first language, it's not a Welsh school, it's just that some of the others speak Welsh at home and we don't. I'll have to check with her.

BackforGood · 29/05/2012 00:20

My dd1 (in Yr8) came home a bit weary today, as her (internal) exams started, and she had 3 x 1 hr 15 min exams. ds was trying to make out he had it a lot harder as he was doing GCSEs - he actually did :
1 x 60min exam last Monday,
1x 60 min exam on Thursday, and that was it for last week,

and this week he has
1x 30min exam on Wed
2 x 60 min exams on Thurs, then a rest until 12th June!

She's not convinced! Grin

They are spaced out though, these exams, aren't they ?

knittedslippersx3 · 29/05/2012 06:59

Dd exams are quite spaced out too, it's good though as she would crack if they were all on top of one another.
English Lang re-sit here today. She's off to school for 7:30 breakfast revision and the free bacon roll!
Science ideas tomorrow and that's it until after half term.
Good luck to everyone else this week.

gettingalifenow · 29/05/2012 07:25

Big day here - 3 today (4 tomorrow).

And she's still in the shower! Ideally would have set off ten mins ago......

glaurung · 29/05/2012 08:18

That's a very tough timetable gettingalife hope they go well. It seems to be pot luck whether they are spaced out well or all happening at once. At least if they are used to doing internal exams all together then they are in some way prepared better for the worst case scenario.

hellsbells99 · 29/05/2012 10:59

DD1 had WJEC English Language this morning - just had text saying it wasn't too bad - formal letter and guide/leaflet. That is us finished until after half-term - then 3 sciences and 2 maths to go! .......until January.....and then next June! ...and DD2 just starting year 10 soon....

empirestateofmind · 29/05/2012 12:40

Kez that was a nice touch from the college to DD.

The chemistry wasn't too bad today apparently. DD1 is very happy that she never has to do chemistry ever again. It is physics tomorrow then a big break before maths in two weeks time.

I think she is flagging a bit, she hasn't felt very well today.

GnomeDePlume · 29/05/2012 12:42

Anyone finding their DCs starting wilt a bit physically?

DD1 has started to develop a few aches and pains. Most I suspect are stress induced. She has another exam day at the end of the week then a week's half term break. I suspect she will be spending most of it asleep.

empirestateofmind · 29/05/2012 12:47

You and me both Gnome. Very similar posts!

mumstoast · 29/05/2012 14:09

DD came home and said english language was ok but she couldnt concentrate for all the time so rambled, she said hopefully her writing has made up for her terrible reading (her words not mine) im sure she will have done fine but she is going to talk it through with her teacher tomorrow to get it all of her mind!

IdontknowwhyIcare · 29/05/2012 14:44

Yep agree, Ds is begining to wilt and he had two screws inserted into his jaw this morning at the dentist (something to attach his braces to?). He has been very brave, not stopped working. 2 big exams tomorrow Business studies and Physics. Fingers crossed that his mouth doesnt give him pain tomorrow. Nothing then til the middle of the week after next. He is very excited that he is going to a pool party on thursday night and Friday and Saturday he is taking his RYA powerboat 2 course. If he passes he should be able to get a job this summer lifeguarding/sailing instructor. I think the rest of the week will be spent asleep. No half term here so supposed to be at school, we shall see, as there are only 3 exams after that, 2 x maths and history.

Kez100 · 29/05/2012 16:25

My DD seems OK and still full of beans but her timetable has been nothing compared to most of your DCs. She thought English was OK today but wished she had been on foundation because they had to write a letter to a celebrity and she would have loved that! Sounds a very good question for Foundation, actually: something they can relate to and get their teeth into. Sounds like her paper wasn't as exciting.

Tomorrow she has the second Science Ideas paper and hopes it is somewhat like the one last week. She is currently revising the pre release. Then that is it until mid June, one final science module. Hopefully she can enjoy half term like she deserves too.

I know it's a really big week for some of your DCs so all the best for the papers to come.

Apparently Eng lang went "okay" and the Further Maths was "incredibly hard". Physics tomorrow and then another Further maths on Friday. The school is actually closed for half term on Friday but as the exam dates were set ages ago he has to go in for two revision sessions and then the exam so I think about 20 students have the whole school to themselves!

BringBack1996 · 29/05/2012 17:15

Today wasn't too bad and even the dreaded latin didn't go too badly according to DS! He's got a couple of physics modules and then that's it for a couple of weeks. He's then got a pretty intense few weeks before he can finally relax so sadly I don't think he'll be enjoying half term.

BeingFluffy · 29/05/2012 18:10

DD found the Latin the hardest paper she's ever seen! Reckons she lost around 5 or 6 marks - she was a bit worried that she won't get an A* as she wants to make the teacher happy! She heard that the boundary is normally 55/60 (per paper) but I reassured her that she can make it up by revising for the other papers! Doing it for A level as well.

English, she thought went well, with interesting topics to comment on/write about. Physics tomorrow!

glaurung · 29/05/2012 18:18

Dd was not happy with the English paper, but she's glad it's over and she'll never have to do creative writing again - 5/11 subjects finished now. She also got a job yesterday, so will be out of mischief for the summer.

BeingFluffy · 29/05/2012 18:23

That's great about the job! DD is doing her work experience over the Summer and she is still 15, but she will have to get a part time job in September.

BringBack1996 · 29/05/2012 18:41

DS is aiming for a C in latin so going well for him is knowing all of the words! I bet everyone's DC are glad to have the english lang over - I know DS was dreading that one and is particularly glad never to have to do english again.

Primrose123 · 29/05/2012 18:49

DD (year 10) has a biology module tomorrow. She's working away in her room, poor thing. Anybody else got a DC doing WJEC Biology?

BrigitBigKnickers · 29/05/2012 19:14

DD found the English easy (she is good at English language- A* in all her coursework) Graphics Theory went well too apparently. Now we have a bit of a hiatus before the RE, Maths and History papers after half term- so she is taking tomorrow off.

SecretSquirrels · 29/05/2012 19:21

Just physics here this week. DS has spent all day doing physics revision and has two papers tomorrow. That will be it until RE on 11th June.
Glauring's DD well done with the job. What is she doing?
