What are the best questions to ask . .

I'm taking my DD to the High school, she has been accepted in for September. She has some sen requirements so what are the best things to find out and/or ask?

Please bear in mind DD will be with me so I don't want to go into too much detail.

I was going to take in a recent copy of SALT report. Do you think this is a good idea of not?

I would try to get an appointment with the Learning Support teacher (or local equivalent) to discuss specifics in private. Certainly the recent report will give them a better idea of any issues they need to be prepared for and maybe even give it to them in advance?

I have a friend whose daughter who is on the Autistic spectrum who gets to sit quietly in the library during break times rather than be in the rabble of the playground because the noise and chaos upsets her. You might ask if there are any such special arrangements which can be made to address the particular needs of your child.

i agree with 3nf. Deoending on actual needs, ask about places for de-stress time and support. Ask if there is a School Counsellor for more confidential talks that wont be broadcasted to the rest of the school. Ask about teaching assistance support and how it will be allocated and used. Check that they are happy for you to telephone at any time if there are issues at home that may affect your child in school.

No question is a silly question if it affects your child and the SEN department, if any good, should be able to reassure you no matter what.
