Can anyone give me the lowdown on state secondaries in East Sussex please? Have a DD in Y5 and DD in Y2 and planning a move to the area this year and we need to think about wheres best to start looking for property etc. Obviously we also need a good primary! Thanks for any info.

East Sussex is quite a big area, covering from Eastbourne/Hastings up to the edge of Tunbridge Wells - do you have a specific area in mind? Does it need to be commutable to London?

East Sussex is a fully comprehensive county and none of the secondaries in the smaller towns have a bad reputation. Around the northern part of East Sussex, the secondaries are all pretty good. Uckfield Community and Technology College has OFSTED outstanding, as does Uplands Community College (in Wadhurst) and Beacon Community College (Crowborough) is rapidly improving and regarded as an option to children in Tunbridge Wells who have failed the 11+. Heathfield Community College also has a good reputation.

It might depend on what specialisms the colleges have - for example Beacon has a sports specialism whereas Uckfield is science and technology.
