How long should DC spend on homework?

Just wondering how much homework your child spends on Homework every day. My DS is in Year 8 and I've been trying to encourage him to do at least an hour a day, but this is a real struggle. What homework routine does your child have, if any?

An hour a day sounds about right. My DC are expected to spend 30 mins on each piece of homework and they are supposed to get two pieces a night. (Doesn't always happen that way, but that's the general idea.)

When DS1 and DS2 were in year 8 they normally got 3 pieces a day of about 20 minutes each.

We found it better if they did 20 minutes then had a break and then another 20 minutes and so on as otherwise they got too distracted and drifted off.

DC is in Year 7 and he does about 2 hours a day.

He has been doing 30 minutes a day (stuff we set) from the age of 5 so when he started at his academic indie the 2 hour thing didn't come as a culture shock.

The homework is interesting so he isn't complaining
