Hi, We are moving to Great Sankey, Warrington very soon and im trying to find good schools for my two children. Unfortunately we were unsuccessfull in getting them into Great Sankey High school as it is full to capacity so i wondered can anyone advise me on other secondary schools in the area?

I would appeal for Great Sankey as a first step for both your children. Full to capacity means that they have filled the capacity to the published admission number but pupils are admitted under appeal to schools above this number if you have good enough reasons.
Moving into the area is a good starting point for an appeal, especially if you are moving a fair distance.
The next two secondary schools are probably Penketh and then Bridgewater High School.

Thankyou, we are intending to appeal but i had feared this was probably a lost cause as we are moving up from the west midlands which is obviously a long way and a huge upheaval for my children so i can't move until i know i have secured a place at a good school. My eldest child has already experienced bullying in his current school. Catch 22 situation. Thankyou for your advice that is very helpful.

I am afraid you are in a catch 22 situation. If the school has places then they can be allocated by the LA from any address, even in the West Midlands! However if the school is full in the appropriate year groups, then appealing before you have a new address is not normally appropriate. Panels are not likely to agree to give places if it is on the basis of we will only move here if you give us a school place!
I am assuming here that there is a reason why Great Sankey is the favoured destination, rather than other parts of Warrington. I would say to Warrington LA that you will be moving to Warrington and ask where there are places for the two year groups, so that you know what the situation is in all the local schools. You can then make a decision as to whether you move or not and whether you then appeal for places at your preferred school.

Thankyou and yes the reason Great Sankey is the favoured area is that is where my long term partner is living and we are moving in with him and his daughter who attends Great Sankey High School. My house is already under offer and we are moving out so we will have to bite the bullet and move up to Warrington and i will have to stay at my parents mid week so that the children can continue at their current schools until a place is offered for them in Warrington.

So that is another good reason at appeal, you are moving in with partner and his daughter going to the school will allow your children to rapidly make further friends in the school which is your local school.
As you have a ready made address you should formally apply to the LA for the places at Great Sankey and then see what happens. Assuming you get a no response you then should appeal and ask the LA for schools where there are places. My guess would be that there could well be places at Penketh.
