council are closing down boarding school but my son in yr 10 help

the council are closing down my sons boarding school - no confirmed timescale - i am worried as my son is in year 10. Have been told he can stay on at the school till year 11 but dont know where he would live. What should we do?

If the council are doing this, then I assume it must be a state boarding school (they have no locus in any other type).

they r planning 2 build new primary school to open sept 2014 on site of girls boarding school which is also being closed down. i am really worried about my year 10 child

Closure of a state boarding school is a big deal - and will also affect several hundred day pupils. Where will those pupils going?

How many boarders per year?

Many in state boarding are military families, and indeed this Government was promising an expansion in state boarding. Are any of DS's friends from military families? Can you ask them if MoD, or any of the service specific welfare organisations are taking an interest in this?

Which school is it?

Sorry, re-reading you said "the council are closing down my sons boarding school" and "girls boarding school which is also being closed down". So there are two schools going?

Only 29 boarders at boys school + about the same no for the girsl boarding house

I posted on Local about the proposed new primary school, with a link to the County Council's website. It does say in their press release that "earlier considerations about the future of the small boarding units ... have opened up this option." I assumed that meant that discussions were already underway about what happens to the boarders - surely there should be provision made for them to be able to continue boarding somewhere until they leave?

It might be a good idea to contact Councillor Roy Perry, who's proposing the new primary school. I'm rather shocked that the Council could put forward the proposal for the new school without having a plan of what to do about the current boarders.

If you read the press release, it will have to go to consultation, and they would have to provide accommodation for your ds until the end of Year 11 and get planning for the new school as well. These things don't move that quickly.
