Does DS1 need Triple Science?

DS1 is in Year 9 and currently choosing options. He's sitting 2 GCSEs this year so if all goes well he'll end up with 13 GCSs at the end of year 11. He's studying triple science but has no interest in it and really doesn't like his teacher.
I know that not liking a teacher isn't a good reason for dropping a subject but will he need triple science if he's not interested in science A levels? Will 'only' having double science close any doors?
At the moment he wants to be a primary school teacher where I know Science GCSE is a requirement. Would double be okay?
I'm hoping that if he did change he might be more motivated as, even though he is capable academically, he feels the combination of being with science 'nerds' (his words), having little interest in the subject and being taught by someone he can't stand, is a pretty poor combination.

You obviously cover more science in the triple/separate science course. However, the double was always designed to allow movement to A level because very few schools could afford the curriculum time for the full triple course.

And two excellent GCSE's are betters than 3 awful ones.

Thanks very much. I read so much on here about how important the number of GCSEs are and parents being upset that their DCs weren't given the opportunity to take triple science that I felt I was swimming against the tide.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the teacher will leave. I was so impressed with all DSs teachers at Open Evening but his Science Teacher was so negative about DS implying that as DS wasn't 'fired up' by Science he didn't 'deserve' to be in his class.
I did try the 'you go and prove him wrong' approach with DS but realistically I know that won't work!

No, nearly everyone at my DS's school does triple but a few ... including my son ... have been moved down to double. Considerably less work and a delight for him because he hates science and it gives him more time for other things.

My one gripe with the (great) secondary my DS will atend is that it only does double science. HOWEVER, a very large proportion of the cohort go on to do science A-levels and score excellently in them, so it doesn't seem to hold them back in the long term. I suppose if the A-level staff know that everyone will only have done double then it's easier for them to 'fill the gaps' than it would be in a class where some have done double and some done triple.

if he is in year 9 and choosing options for y10 the it is highly unlikley he will have same teacher again, particularly for triple where you should expect him to have 3 seperate teachers, each a specialist in their own field so that should not be a reason for not choosing/or choosing triple/double.

If he doesn't enjoy the sciences why do the triple? It is nice to do some subjects that you really enjoy even if you are deemed capable of doing the more academic ones!
