If you were starting a new state secondary school from scratch and you were only allowed 3 school rules what would they be?

Mine would be:

Be civil.
Be on time.
Be well groomed.

"It's so wonderful how much you want to communicate with your blackberry, I really admire your commitment to chatting. If you could just leave it a tad until after the lesson you can honour the class with your commitment to communicating with them for now".

Perhaps the positive messages could say:

You can be anything you want to be.

Or signs on each classroom door saying: How's my teaching? 0800 24333223

Don't be a dingbat covers it!

Am loving "how's my teaching?"

Someone dare me to suggest it at my next governor's meeting......

corlan · 07/02/2012 21:09

I like 'Try a bit' - I think that would make a great school motto.

TheAvocadoOfInteriorDesign · 07/02/2012 21:13

Sit down
Shut Up
Get on with your work.

marriedinwhite · 07/02/2012 21:30

Mine would be for the staff and governors:

Fulfil the promises made in the prospectus
Support all staff to deliver Grade 1 and Grade 2 lessons
All rules for the pupils will be applied fairly and equally

EvilTwins · 07/02/2012 23:26

  1. Allow learning to happen (for everyone, including yourself, all the time)
  2. Keep your phone/iPod/headphones in your bag and out of sight
  3. Treat everyone with respect, regardless of who they are.

Grin No NOs there.

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 06:34

I like Evil's three, if we could just sneak the coat thing in it would be perfect. Smile

You're here to learn not gossip.
If you don't want to learn, please shut up so others can!

That would be DD1s rule.

EdithWeston · 08/02/2012 11:09

Have a hairdo which you can see out from (no flicking).

Listen when others are speaking.

Be aware of your impact on others.

startail · 08/02/2012 11:16

I think she'd be quite happy if her whole MFL class were texting or listening to their ipods'. She'd just like to be able to hear the teacher.

Denj33 · 08/02/2012 13:52

Wel whatever nutmeg rush is, it is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN at DS1 school, quite how this is enforced I do not know, as a group of DCs running IS allowed, obviously they must have a nutmeg rush radar?!?!

I have had 3 letters and an email about it do far THIS YEAR
Given I have NO IDEA what it is, I am struggling to help enforce this rule :)

EvilTwins · 08/02/2012 13:54

Agree with Edith. I would add "avoid hairstyles that mean you have to keep your head at an awkward angle"
