Year 8, pathways

Can someone explain this 'pathways' thing that happens in year 8? DD has come home twice since term started now, saying they had to choose their pathways. I understand these are not actual GCSEs they're choosing, but I don't know what they are.

What do you do/can you do if a subject in a pathway is not available? She said something about only one pathway had music, but it didn't have something else she wanted. The school haven't communicated with us over this; I don't mind that, but would like a bit more info.

The school should be able to explain their implementation but here is a Teacher's guide to Pathways.

which would be cool but when you go to the connexions site and then click teh links, some of the options are DISTINCTLY unsavoury

Well, I think I'm too dumb to be the parent of a child as bright as dd! I don't really follow that; she's planning on GCSEs and then Uni. Are these pathway subjects GCSEs or not?(!)

Jux, you're not dumb, the school is talking jargon without explaining it. Write a note to the form tutor to ask about it. Hopefully they will be able to give you a ring and explain what you need to know. It is, of course, possible that DD has some wires crossed, which makes it more difficult for you to understand what she's on about!

OK, now I've looked properly without dh asking me about his computer, it's not complicated. She could follow a path to a diploma, an apprenticeship, something or other which I've forgotten, or GCSEs - there's some overlap or interaction between them.

Thank you. Grin

Thanks, babybouncer. What is Foundation Learning (the option I'd forgotten.)
