Entrance interview

Hello, I read in this forum of a DC taking a portfolio of his/her achivements to an entrance interview. Good or bad idea? Would the school find it excessive? Is this normal? Did your DCs do something similar?

I teach in a private secondary and will be interviewing next week. If the school have not asked for it, it is not necessary. Kids do try and make me look at theirs sometimes and I always just tell them that they can tell me, I will believe them! Again, depends a bit on the school but really the interview is less important than any entrance exam results and they should just try to relax and not go over the top. I want to know what they've really just read, not what they think I want to hear - enthusiasm for their interests is more important than what the interest is IYSWIM. Best of luck

trixie123 thank you so much. DS sometimes forgets his own achievements, I think partly because he feels it is "boastful" to talk about them. There is this thing about not "showing off" in school. For example, even though he is a spelling bee winner, if someone asked him "How's your spelling?" he may just shrug and answer something like "pretty good"...End of it. So I'm thinking maybe the portoflio would be a reminder, something to rely on - and not hide - IYWIM. At least I know other kids bring them too.
