Offers Day 1st March 2012

Anyone else feeling like we do about the impending Offers Day?

Not at all a foregone conclusion that DS will get into any of first five choices (all selective, two 11+ passes, one 11+ result due this coming week) so rather up in the air.... Sixth choice is okayish but DS has talked it down to the point that he is now desperately hoping it's not his one and only choice! Otherwise DS is being quite mature about considering that he could end up at any of the schools and is already thinking about which friends from primary school he is likely to stay in touch with etc.....

It all feels a bit as if life is on hold till 1st March.....

I feel relieved today. It has been months of anxiety and I almost wished I'd not bothered with what I did. DS passed for an independent grammar but I found on Tuesday that he did not get a bursary so I can't afford to send him. I was gutted for a few hours. He got into the local comp where a lot of his friends will be going. I'm sure he will be fine. I'm just relieved the whole thing is done for us.

bizzey · 01/03/2012 12:57

Northermonkey..i agree soooooo slow. Up till now i was counting it in days but now i can do it in hours..approx 22 (i have to wait for post tom)hours.

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 01/03/2012 12:59

Glad you're feeling OK about things now migsy
(We wouldn't be able to afford a private school no matter how generous the scholarship - except for 100% obviously)
Being with friends counts for a lot in my book.

minesawine · 01/03/2012 13:07

I have to wait until 5pm for Ealing schools. I am so anxious I cannot concentrate at work. I feel sick. Neither of my (non Ealing) colleagues got their first choice (3rd and 5th) so I am even more stressed. I think I will have to leave early so I can be there to press the button at 5:01. Any other Ealing mums out there??

snoopybella · 01/03/2012 13:13

I'm a L.B of Sutton mum and again we have to wait until 5pm or any time after that. Agree with you 'minesawine' - I'm at work and it is v. v. hard to concentrate. We are trying to get home from work as soon as we can so we can logon and find out. Are lucky with have two independant offers to fall back on but my DD really wants to go to the Grammar that is 500m away from our house and we want her to go there too. Here's hoping ....

hanahsaunt · 01/03/2012 13:14

We got first choice for ds1 which was a relief and a bit of light after a very dark period - my dad died 2 weeks ago today suddenly and unexpectedly - thing is, he's the first person I would have told when I got the email ... (dh hard to reach at work).

Bethnella · 01/03/2012 13:15

Have spent today putting the finishing touches to the Y2 production of Noah's Ark with a "sick to the stomach" feeling!!!! Unprofessionally checking emails whenever possible....Roll on "this evening" already!!! Big congrats to all who are happy with their offers x

merlin · 01/03/2012 13:17

I am about to commit murder!!!! My stupid DH got bored waiting for the results to go live this morning and while checking out original application noticed that it had our old phone no. on. So, he changed it.

Guess what? Fucked up the result, now won't show online, they won't tell us over the phone, have to wait for letter in the post tomorrow - and I'm going away first thing for the weekend.

Angry does not even cover it!!!!! And he won't even admit its his fault - says its the LEAs computer system!!! If he'd just left it alone it would all have been fine!!!

He will be explaining to DS later why all his friends know where they are going but not him.

redrooster · 01/03/2012 13:26

We have to wait till "evening" in lancaster. However not sure if that means 6pm or before? Fingers crossed.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 13:35

lol thats all i kept reading the term ( the crows flys) .. i gathered this ment door to door and only public paths not ( short cuts like over the fence lol) .. im feeling calmer now ...
still going to cheekly see at the school at 3

TobyLerone · 01/03/2012 13:37

Wow, calm down, merlin Hmm

ChaosTrulyReigns · 01/03/2012 13:38

Well.

DD got into her first choice of school and will be joining her sister.

So all's fine here. Except for her BF going to a different school. Not important in the scheme of things, but pretty catastrophic to a 10yo. I Sad

What was surprising was the amount of her classmates
who won't know until the posts arrives tomorrow.

LoveBox · 01/03/2012 14:08

I work in the admissions office in a London authority - I think we are dreading it all going live as much as everyone!

PAN-LONDON have said London Authorities will get an email with the name of their school offer this evening, and then to only log in if you are ready to accept/decline your place (because otherwise the system might crash with everyone logging in just to check). Although 5pm was originally given as a time, they are now asking authorities not to give a set time.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you.

Avantia · 01/03/2012 14:24

Oh LoveBox - would hate to have your job the next few weeks !

Good luck ! You must be an incredible calm person - I bet you get some very irrate / worried parents on your phone.

mooze14 · 01/03/2012 14:24

thanks for that ( love box!!) ...

so really no need to bother the pan site really.. i mean if i dont accept or decline the place right away it surely wont make a difference maybe better to leave it a week?? is that enough time or do you have to confirm before then

goingtoofast · 01/03/2012 14:25

I should here after 6 pm, our offer will be emailed - could take longer as the emails will not all arrive at 6. Am feeling very nervous!

LoveBox · 01/03/2012 14:35

Usually you would have to confirm within 14 days (so 16th March for most London authorities). Yes, you get very irate/angry parents, but thats understandable. Once you've explained their options (other schools/waiting lists/appeals) and how the decision was made to refuse a place, most parents tend to be very reasonable and nice.

BoobyBrown · 01/03/2012 14:37

oooh LoveBox, some insider info Grin.

Didn't know that about the email, was under impression it would just direct us to log in to find out the results. So the email will actually name the allocated school?

Am more nervous about that though for some reason!

BoobyBrown · 01/03/2012 14:39

Imagine if you got first choice but somehow forgot to confirm.

OMG it's the sort of thing I might do.. bet it has happened.

Twit · 01/03/2012 14:45

We're in, it's ok Wink
I thought you didn't have to confirm if you are accepting the place offered?

Now have to wait until (April?) to see if DS3 get's in to primary.....

Stroppy40 · 01/03/2012 14:50

You have to accept WHATEVER you get offered!!! Even if it's your first choice: you still have to accept or you lose the place and all that anxious waiting will have been in vain!!

Twit · 01/03/2012 14:50

Have just read about all the malarkey with the London Schools etc etc Shock. Maybe ours is really simple 'cos we are out here in the country, our local excellent high school has 4 places if you don't mind a long school journey.

LoveBox · 01/03/2012 15:21

Stroppy40 Not all LEAs require you to accept if it's first preference- some assume first preference is automatic acceptance- read your offer letter carefully to see what you should do!

madhairday · 01/03/2012 15:27

Been logging on all day in the hope that they might just publish early (meant to be 6pm) but no. All by the book here, it seems. Sigh

noraa · 01/03/2012 15:36

i think we can confirm the place in 14 days, we don't need to rush.
because there are people who made their application by post, they would be disadvantaged otherwise.
