Getting DD into Faith School

ok we live in town where best and nearest school is a muslim school. How difficult is it to get a place at a muslim faith school - what are the rules for being recognised as a muslim for admission purposes. Any experience and ideas appreciated. Thanks

Why would you even try, it's not something you could fake.

Halal food, no alcohol, prayer 5 times a day, poss circumcision for males, learning arabic to read the Qur'an etc

Sorry I am not being very clear. I would not want to fake anything. I understand that becoming a muslim is quite easy in that no need for a christening and a baptism as with Christian religion. I think I can become a muslim by just saying so. I don't think the schools require all the things you lay out but I will check thank you

You declare the Shahadah in arabic in front of whitnesses.

The school may not require the list but to be a Muslim, Allah does.

Are all the other schools around you awful, or just not as good? It never ceases to amaze me how people willingly teach their children that deceit is perfectly acceptable in the interests of getting what you want.

Don't forget that you will be pressurising your child to lie for many years as well as you. Is it fair to place that upon them? Isn't moral integrity an important part of your child's education as well as academic achievement?

You need to look at the school's admissions criteria, which should let you know what the faith criteria are. I expect that for most you will need to have a supplementary form signed by an Imam (a system very like a priest's reference in Christian schools).

Here is an actual example of a supplementary form. You will see that it covers adherence to the principles of Islam, daily prayer (5 times a day), Ramadan fasting and modesty in dress.

Academic matters are important but not the reason MayaAngelCool I not know why you thing that is. What is important for DD is that school is right. Faeriefruitcake my DD does not drink she is just 10 at moment but you think it possible. Who should be whitnesses

People usually fake a faith for school admissions for academic reasons. If you all have to pretend to be something you're not in order to get into the school, how on earth can it be right for your daughter?

Anyway, I don't want to hassle you over this. I happen to think that all schools should accept all local pupils, regardless of faith. But I certainly disagree with lying to get a place. Good luck whatever the outcome.

seasonalfruits · 22/11/2011 23:47

I don't want to fake that would not be right for DD and I dont want to lie but if I became a muslim that would be ok. Thank you for alll your help

Obviously your daughter doesn't drink, but as a muslim neither can you. Alcohol is haram.

If you wish to convert you should speak to an Imam

CecilyP · 23/11/2011 18:57

Are you really interested in becoming a muslim? Would you be interested if your daughter was not about to go to school?

First of all, try to find out if being a muslim is actually a requirement for getting place in the school. Next speak to an Imam. Just remembered that this is the secondary board; so does your DD want to become a muslim? It is she who will be attending the school, so do you think will she feel comfortable there?

Most faith schools allocate a certain amount of places to people of other faiths or no faith at all. In which case she will qualify for a place under those criteria
