I need to find a school in Surrey preferably Guildford area for my son who is a slow learner and needs support academically. Either state or independent ping into y9

Just Guildford or surrounding area?

The Priory School, Dorking is a small state school worth looking at.

The Box Hill School, Dorking is a small Independant school also worth a consider.

Sorry, I don't know enough about schools closer to Guildford (except thaat there are some very good ones!)

Try George Abbot ( or St Peter's) or further away maybe Howard of Effingham. There is Moon Hall College between Reigate and Dorking as a private specialist alternative. Or in the other direction More House.

Duke of Kent at Ewhurst now goes up to 16. No idea what its like though. Would agree with Migrating coconuts that the Priory and Box Hill would be worth considering.

I've heard very good things about George Abbott too. Its a very popular school and you'd need to be very sure what catchment you are in to stand a chance.

In fact this would apply to any school in Guildford itself. If you are looking for a state school, you need to work out which catchment you fall in to because the competition in guildford is very high for places. You may find that you have little, if any, actual choice.

Seaford College might be worth cosndiering or Ewell Castle

Mummytime,

Do you know much about Moon Hall. We went to look yesterday and are looking for some external opinions. Any info would be great

Thanks

More House near Farnham - Independent not state.

mummytime · 06/11/2011 07:15

I don't know Moon Hall College, but I would think it would be pretty good, I know lots of kids who have been through Moon Hall School and most are coping well with their senior schools (State and private).
If the OP is looking for year 9, catchment isn't so important as she will be looking for a vacancy and/or appealing.

MigratingCoconuts · 06/11/2011 08:33

good point mummytime, forgot that!

fleetundo · 06/11/2011 08:49

More House is def worth considering

AfricanExport · 06/11/2011 09:46

Thanks Mummytime, I know the college has only been open for a few years but based on the principles of the school so that is good news. She is very excited to be able to go somewhere that could help her :-)

Now I just to saw off my left arm to pay the fees....
