Average Points Score - advice please

DD came back from school today and said they been 'given' their average points score.
She thought hers was 'rubbish' at 7.5 but i don't think she understood it properly.

DD is currently considering what universities she may apply to and i wonder if this matters... she got 7 A* and 7A's .Will ALL these exams be considered or just some.

Would she have been better doing less GCSEs and thus getting a higher APS?

Any pointers or advice would be great

I think your DD has misunderstood as the highest average points score is 8! An A is 7 points and A* is 8 points. She has really good GCSE results and they'll all go on her UCAS form when she applies to university. 14 is a lot though - why so many?

They all score them differently. Some places just look at the top 8 results - she'd score even better on that metric. It may have been marginally better in some instances to do fewer, but what's done is done and not worth fretting about. Presumably, she has a fantastic knowledge in a wide spectrum of subjects after doing so well at so many and you can never take that away. I would think her results are good enough to apply to whatever she wants in any case.

Webwiz her school insisted - that was less than a lot took as we wouldn't let her sit media!

I wish her school (new) had explained the aps as she seemed down hearted and thus we got worried - i too wish she haf not done so many for various reasons

She shouldn't be disheartened - they are really good results! Remember too that universities will also look at AS results and predicted grades and usually attach more importance to these. Assuming she's in year 12 now, those are things she can actually work hard to improve that will make a real difference to the sort of courses she might realistically apply to.

The mind boggles at more than 14 GCSEs! Well done to your DD for doing so well.
