Any yr 10 students finding it hard?

dd in bits tonight as she is finding the work much harder and is struggling in maths, science and ict especially.
I'm in school tomorrow for a chat...just wondered if there were any other dcs in a similar situation?

exactly the same here tonight with my 14dd, in both maths and science. we have offered to speak to school but she doesnt want us to make a fuss, so we've agreed will see how the next week goes and if she still feels the same will step in.

she has always found maths difficult but has been put into a class working towards higher paper, and with science which she alway enjoyed, said today she asked teacher to explain something but he told her youve been put in tis set so you should understand

i think the pressure is getting to her it must be al they are hearing from each subject teacher
very difficult to know what to do for the best

I have sent her in with a note for tutor so am expecting a call.
Maths, science and ICT are her worst subjects, but a maths tutor has given her much more confidence over the last year.
I think she too is in a higher group for these subjects, but is finding it so hard. We have had tears, not eating.

Yes - but for DD it began last term, in science, when the GCSE courses began. Although she is now over the 'options panic mode' on whehter triple science was the right choice, she is finding the Unit 2 work this term more difficult.

ICT she is finding very 'bitty', dificult to pull everything together but cannot pinpoint what (if anything) she does not understand. Lunchtime ICT club has been helping.

The main thing we have noticed so far in yr10 is the massive INCREASE in homework. From virtually nothing to at least one piece per week set for EVERY subject. So challenging the organisational skills.

DS is ok with the difficulty of the work but he's had a massive increase in homework as well. He'd managed to somehow save up six different subjects for last night when I thought he had cleared it all at the weekend

I need to have a BIG TALK with DD1 about homework too. She keeps miraculously discovering urgent homework at 9pm.

we've noticed a real ramp up in homework - at least 3 hours every night :( she is really struggling, but then she is doing a lot of fast track GCSEs.

We are getting the "Aaaaarrrrrggghhhhh I cant do this" attitude, but I think some of that is the schools "Shock and awe" tactics with loading them with homework in the early part of the year - by the end of the year, they will think 2 bits of HW is an easy night!

My DD attends a school where they have a 3 year KS4 - in yr9 she sat GCSE Statistics, GCSE Geography and completed her first ICT qualification. However she feels that the work load has definetly been ramped up in yr10. DD sits her first GCSE Maths module in November and the second in June. After Xmas she will sit modules in Chemistry and Biology.In June she will sit the Physics module. She's doing triple science. In English they are starting the CA's and I think she will do both English language exams in June. She will also take the two exams for this years option subject. So as DD puts it " I'm going to be a bit busy this year...." I didn't like to point out and next year as well.

The tutor phoned today and said a lot of the girls are struggling.
She's emailed all dd's teachers , and has spoken to the maths teacher who admitted the work was too advanced (then why set it one asks) and other girls had been struggling.
Anyway dd feels better so will keep an eye.
Glad I'm not the only one.
