Retakes in London?

My ds didn't get the grades he needs for university and has said he would like to retake over a year. I have looked into private tuition colleges and for two resits it costs £18k for a year - there is no way we can afford this. Does anyone know whether there are any free (or much cheaper!) ways to do this? He could go back to his school to take the exams but would have to study at home and I think this would be too hard for him. Any suggestions please?

I have asked at our local FE college but he would have to redo all 3 a'levels to be full time and therefore not pay. He only needs to do two. I will ring round some 6th forms tomorrow, thanks for the advice.
