Getting into school after a move

Desperate for help!
My niece, who is 14, recently moved in with me - on the 31 May. I have been trying to get her in to a school since then, they local authority have moved so slowly! Finally on Friday they told me that they have set up a panel to discuss her needs - not until the 9 July (I'm sure this is also an incorrect date as that is a Saturday). By this time the school year will be practically over and my niece will have missed all school since before the last half term. Is there any kind of legal action I can take? I really feel this is unacceptable. Thanks, Clare

Your best option is to complain to the Local Government Ombudsman. If they think the delay is unreasonable you may get some compensation.
