I'm in Harrogate which is nearby. I have little knowledge of Ripon Grammar other than it is selective and I believe it has some element of boarding. No idea how good the other town schools are given that the brightest must be at the grammar. Harrogate has excellent secondary schools, particularly the Grammar (non selective) and St Aidens (C of E).

Ripon Grammar outperforms all the state schools in Ripon/Harrogate/Boroughbridge and also outperforms the very well respected private school, Ashville College (as well as all the other private possibilities). It really is an outstandingly fantastic school and we are very pleased with it.

The alternative for those living in Ripon is Ripon College - not a great option. Some plump for Boroughbridge or even Pateley Bridge.

Most schools in Harrogate are very good, with St Aidans being the closest academically to Ripon Grammar. The school to avoid in Harrogate is Harrogate High (seems to have pulled its socks up recently, but read between the lines and you will find it's in all the 'soft' subjects!).

There is huge competition to get into all the schools in Harrogate/Ripon (apart from the two not so good ones already mentioned). Ripon take from a wide catchment area because it's so very rural, but the catchment areas in Harrogate are very small (unless you live in a village when you get priority),
