Does it have to be Paisley/Houston? East Renfrewshire has some good schools. Mearns Castle (secondary) and some of the other schools in the Eaglesham/Newton Mearns/Clarkston area have a good reputation. Housing fairly pricy there, but a commute to Paisley wouldn't be out of the question from there (by car at least) I don't think. I'm not in that area so can't be much more specific I'm afraid.

You know, I assume that the school year here starts in August, not September and that depending on your DCs birthdays, they may be in a different school year from the one they are currently in? The cutoff here is end Feb, so children born March - Aug would be in the year below the year they would be in down south. ie, if your child turns 4 this week, he won't go to school in Aug 2011, but in Aug 2012.

Perhaps also try the Glasgow local section of the board?

Agree with midnight. East ren has fantastic schools. Also look very closely at bearsden - moss head is outstanding and feeds into bearsden academy.
Glasgow city has lots of good primaries (broomhill, Hyndland) - I can't say the same for secondaries though unless you buy a house in the jordanhill catchement and even then you might not get in. Call the school directly for information that is accurate!

Jordanhill is probably the best state school in Glasgow. My partner used to work there and he agreed that it's fantastic. However, as WentworthMillerMad says, even if you move to Jordanhill you might not get into the school.

There are some great schools just outside Glasgow too - Lenzie Academy, for example, is an excellent school.

Gryffe High School in Bridge of Weir used to have a really good reputation.
