should i send my son to the same school as his sister

When i got my first childs (daughter) secondary school it was my second choice, we have an outstanding partially selective school up the road but she just missed out - now I will have to choose a school for my son and cant decide whether to try for the outstanding school again or send him to the same school as my daughter most of his main friends will probably get the selective school on location should i risk putting it second and then people further away from where i live could get in to the best school - any opinions on whether siblings should go to best school greatly appreciated

yes she is really happy there but it is just not as good a school (academically) which i know isnt everything. Is it that difficult having them at different schools?

Why would it be difficult - you won't be doing pick up/drop offs. There holidays should be more or less the same.

Apply for the school you think would be better suited for DS - ie if sporty the sportier, if into science the best labs etc

Also ask your son which he would prefer and take that into consideration.

My dds are at different secondaries and there has never been a problem. I do do a bit of comparing now and then though!

I agree- go for the best school for him regardless of his sister (not that I think there's any reason not to send them to the same school just better for him to have the school that's right for him) sounds like academic one would be best to me

thanks everyone think i should only think about my son really but these selective schools will have a lot of very clever privately educated children and i hope this doesnt affect his confidence - no doubt i will be umming and aahing right up to the last minute!

My first two DCs went to different schools and it worked really well for them, enabling the older one to be a person in his own right, not overshadowed by the fact that his younger sibling was more academic. If you are in a position to do so, sending each child to the school that is best for them is a really good idea.
