Does anyone know just how difficult this is to get into ? We are in Scotland . One of my DDs would like to apply to study pharmacy there. Does anyone know if they accept Scottish Highers ? I don't see any mention on their website. We would like any info anyone has on Trinity ,especially any wise Irish mums ! DD likely to get 4 As and a B at Higher this year. 8 As last year at Int 2.

It's v difficult now as you need to get an A to get the max amount of points, which are needed for a lot of courses. Eg my brother wants to do medicine, is in NI and hasn't even bothered applying because he pretty much is guaranteed to need 4 to do medicine anywhere in Ireland.

If you contact them directly, they may be able to help with conversion for Highers, there doesn't seem to be a direct conversion. But last year, you needed 540 point, which is equal to 4 As at A level to do pharmacy at TCD.

Gosh thats even harder than I thought. pharmacy is easier to get into in Scotland than medicine so I thought it would be similar. Thanks for the info. I shall talk her into Aberdeen or Strathclyde instead I think !

I don't know if this still applies but back in the day when I was a student Pharmacy was as difficult, if not more so to get into than Medicine. Trinity was (and maybe still is) the only university in Ireland where you can study Pharmacy. The competition was fierce due partly to the large number of family pharmacies where students were trying to gain entry in order to carry on the family business. It wasn't just a career choice but often connected to a whole lifestyle, family home attached to pharmacy etc.

You can also study pharmacy at RCSI (fee-paying), UCC, and UCD. If you were thinking about admission for Sept 2011 I think you may be too late to apply. I would get on to the admission offices of the above to clarify and to seek Highers conversions.

actually I think UCD don't offer pharmacy.

She loves chemistry and shopping so pharmacy seemed a good combo! Trinity sounds impossible though.

What you need to do is look at the CAO website. This is the agency that actually processes applications for institutions in the Republic of Ireland.

From their handbook you will get advice on what is possible, where the courses are, and what is likely to be required.

Pharmacy NOT easy to get into though for the reasons described....
