Art teaching year 7

Since starting school in September DD has been given art homework every week. This normally consists of attempting to interpret (in the teacher's view copy) the work of a particular artist. The lessons in school are more of the same. I can clearly recall being taught colour theory, how to draw people, parallel perspective etc in year 7 . Is DD's experience normal?

My DD studied a particular artist last term (yr 7), interpreting and producing similar work.

Yes this is normal, they covered different artists but also had to do sheets on colour and texture.

same as HSMM here.

Mine has done the same as HSMM, and also lots of self-portraits and tasks to practice certain skills, eg shading. Though I haven't checked her book recently!
