Does anybody know if it's possible to send your child to a school outside your local borough?
I live in Enfield and would consider a secondary school in Barnet.

You have every right to apply, but if distance is one of the criteria you may not get a place.

500 children in my catchment go to schools in the next LEA !!

carrothair · 20/03/2011 12:23

LEAs aren't allowed to take the borough boundaries into consideration when looking at admissions - look up the Greenwich ruling. They will look at distance though, so it depends how far you live from the school regardless of which borough you're in.

DS goes to a school in the next borough as it's our nearest school, we are on the edge of our borough. Are you close to the borough boundary with Barnet?

bitsyandbetty · 20/03/2011 12:57

My dcs go to a school in the next LEA so you can apply.

Bitsy, i'm approx 4 miles from East Barnet school which was the school i want to try and get DB into. The other option is Highlands i've got nothing to lose i guess.

Unless you have medical or social reasons to increase your priority you will not get a place at East Barnet on a proximity basis (allocated to 1.6 miles in 2010). Highlands allocated to 1.5 miles in 2010.

mummasita · 21/03/2011 19:57

Oh my word i've got no chance have I..It's either keep DB in his crap school or send him to another equally crap school in the catchement area. I can't afford to move, I rent privately and couldn't possibly afford a flat further into West Enfield.

DB hasn't got any serious medical issues other than his awful excema which flares up when he's stressed, and what does social reasons mean? Sorry i'm blond..lol

Is he in Yr6? The distances quoted above are from the secondary school transfer process. You could contact the school to ask about their waiting list if he's already in secondary.

mummasita · 21/03/2011 21:20

NL3 he's in yr9, I am going to contact the school maybe at the very least get him on their waiting list. He's actually near the top for Highlands but the way things are going he probably will never get a place.

Ah I see - then contact the school directly and ask to go on the waiting list.....worth considering other schools as well - Ashmole??

mummasita · 23/03/2011 15:11

Thanks for the advice guys!! NL3 i never even heard of Ashmole, i will defitnately look into it. A friend sugested The Compton school but that's even further out do you think he'd have a chance getting into that one!!?
