My impression of this school is that it's for the mega-academic and the super-monied. Is that accurate? Do many state school kids get in at 11+? Any opinions/ knowledge would be great!

I have friends with DC there. It is not mega-academic and lots of state school kids are offered places at 11. Our DS was offered a place there and we turned it down because geographically it was not ideal and we didn't think he would be suitable for the IB. We did like the school, tho'and if he hadn't been offered a school we thought was more suitable, would have happily gone for it.

(byw - regarding the money, one of the DC I know was offered a masssive scholarship after other schools of similar repute had stopped giving scholarships in favour of bursaries... If your DS is clever, and also applies to other - ahem - highly regarded schools, you might find there is a big discount available...)

Thanks for your reply. It's really surprised me because I've heard it described as the best school in the country because it was academically so brilliant and that I couldn't and shouldn't compare it to, say, Westminster, because of the IB. I also thought (perhaps misguidedly) that because it was slightly more expensive than most of the other local-ish selective schools, that they felt they could charge more because they got better results.

What other highly-regarded schools?! Westminster, St Paul's, KGS, Hampton? .... A massive scholarship would be nice!! Grin

Yesterday met someone who was squeezing a scholarship out of a school where they don't advertise them - it can be done.

There are only 15 places at KCS at 11+, so yes, it is fairly academically selective especially at this entry point. That said children at prep schools either apply earlier or wait for 13+, so most of those sitting 11+ will be from state schools as well as non IAPS private schools.

Parents come from the same broad backgrounds as you find at most of the London independent schools - everything from super-monied down to being funded by other family members.

That's interesting Lady Muck, thank you. I hadn't appreciated the number of places at 11. Is that the same for 10+, do you know?
