Any IT tools for secondary history?

Has anyone come across some good IT tools or other successful strategies for teaching secondary history?

My DS in y7. He generally achieved very well but there seem to be an odd problem with history. I was suggested to use IT tools but I cant' really make sense of this without an example.

Could you share any experiences?
