Mill HIll School

OH is keen to send DD to Mill Hill School in Sept. I'm not so sure as girls seem to be in a small minority there and school has a masculine feel to it. I would really welcome comments from anyone who knows the school and how well girls do there.

Thanking you in advance.

Hi N3Mum, I have a son at Mill Hill who moved to Belmont for year 7 and then on to Mill Hill aged 13.
I think the ratio of boys to girls is more like 60:40, most move from Belmont and then from other prep schools at 13+. I certainly have never had the impression of a masculine ethos. It is very sporty and both girls and boys play to a very high standard. what is particularly nice is there is a depth to the teams and it is not only the best players who only play for the school. Drama is also particularly strong. There is a new Head who is definitely stirring up the school academically, whilst not compromising the pastoral care or community spirit. It certainly is not part of the North London hot house academic culture which would not have suitd my DS, but certainly to get the most out of it, you have to be wiling to participate in all that it offers. It would not have suited my eldest son who couldn't wait to leave the school gates at 3.15pm.
Downside is Saturday school but at least you know where they are i.e not hanging round Brent Cross all day.
