Returning from couple of years overseas. Before we left DS was at good all boys day/boarding in home counties; they have kept place open for him, no exam required, which is helpful as he has been at small international school and is probably now below standard compared to UK. However, not sure - school is bit old-boy provincial, but at least 'the devil you know'. Don't have house there now either but do still have flat in london W1. Really like idea of moving there but would be new start - too much for him? Imagine will be impossible to get place in good state school (Y8 entry) and am worried that he won't pass the exams for the privates.....views? Suggested schools?

Portland Place? Is Co-ed but more boys than girls.. very central.

Worth having a look at Mill Hill School. Not too bad a journey from W1. Day and boarding and co-ed however about 35% girls. Academically it is improving rapidly but entrance exam not too difficult.

Thanks, will investigate. DS won't be complaining about the mix!
