Hi
Apologies if this has been done this year, but I found a similar thread very supportive when DD started the exam treadmill (not at Uni) and we are about to start again with DS.

Milliboy is 15, late Summer baby so cannot get a job until the end of the Summer hols, when they will have all gone. Good news is - this gives him more revision time Grin

He is at a boys selective Grammar school, so the pressure is on to achieve. He also wants to aim for a decent Uni so understands that good GCSE grades are vital.

Still doesn't make the whole process any easier for him or me :)

Who else has boarded the 2011 Exam Express?

Latin and RE here today - only 6 exams left now - at last the finishing line is on the far horizon. Can't wait for Maths to be over. DD does IGCSE, and some trainee teacher posted the whole paper on The Student Room after the first exam, so DD and all her friends could work out exactly what they got on the first paper; very stressful... Can't imagine how angry Edexcel must be with the person who posted it!

MABS · 09/06/2011 22:49

Maths calc tomorrow here then 2 geogs next week :(

Merrylegs · 10/06/2011 11:19

Maths calc. (Edexcel Higher) this a.m was fine, according to DS. 'Easy' even. (Famous last words!)

mumblechum1 · 10/06/2011 13:54

Is welsh compulsory if you're in Wales?

Cupawoman · 10/06/2011 14:27

DS said his AQA maths exam was fine this morning too. He's got Add Maths on Monday which he's not looking forward to.

emmspemms · 10/06/2011 15:33

Mumblechum1,
Yes, Welsh is compulsory up til GCSE .
There are 2 secondary schools in town , the one that my 2 go to ( mostly teaching in English ) and a smaller school that teaches in Welsh , I think they can do maths & science in English , everything else in the welsh language, exams taken in Welsh too.
Son not home yet , so don't know how maths went yet. The exam double up is on Thursday , so they ( about 40 of them ) will do ICT at 10.30 , then be quarantined with no phone access until 2pm when they will do the Welsh paper.
He just came home and guess what ? Maths salright?...

frostyfingers · 10/06/2011 15:35

NO MORE MATHS! Although my boys still have 5 more exams, last one on 27th, they're beginning to feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel. I collected them after maths this morning, they came home and both promptly went to sleep. They've now had food and walked the dogs so hopefully are feeling refreshed. I too am beginning to feel a bit less hassled by it, once next week is over we really will be "almost there"!

mumblechum1 · 10/06/2011 16:59

"piss easy" is ds's verdict on Higher Edexcel Maths.

Let's hope that translates into an A* Hmm

Milliways · 10/06/2011 23:18

Snap Mumblechum1 - the exact opposite of Monday's paper!

8 more to go.....

7 more for my little darling! He has a gap of 11 days from his penultimate one to the last! Hope he can keep the momentum going!

MABS · 11/06/2011 08:56

she hated maths ystdy :( just two geog papers next week then we are done apart from 28 jun Chem retake

slartybartfast · 11/06/2011 10:46

anotehr hard maths for my ds

a week off then 2 german... i am letting it celebrate Grin

balia · 11/06/2011 16:08

After the stress it is a bit disconcerting, isn't it - these long gaps. DD has two next week on Tuesday but then nothing until the following week, Mon or Tues, can't remember, and then another week to wait before her final paper on the 27th. And she's still meant to be in school until then, got a letter this morning from the school reiterating it.

Still, went to get her prom dress altered today, that was a nice girly trip - and she's finally found some shoes she likes.

Anyone have DT Graphics on Friday?

DS said it was awful and included several types of questions that they had not prepared for. His teacher is apparently putting in a complaint.

MABS · 12/06/2011 09:52

dd doesn't do graphics so can't help i'm afraid :(

Cupawoman · 12/06/2011 20:15

Anybody else's DC doing Additional Maths tomorrow?

Milliways · 12/06/2011 21:38

Yup, DS has Ad.Maths clashing with Geography, so has to spend time in isolation after the Maths :(

Cupawoman · 13/06/2011 13:18

Milliways DS thought the Add Maths went OK (OCR). How did your son find it?

MABS · 13/06/2011 15:16

Geog was fine apparently :)

Milliways · 13/06/2011 16:23

Cupawoman: DS was OCR too, and found it ok - as Ad.Maths goes! Geography had a shaky start but then he got into it and so overall both were good :)

History again tomorrow.

Cupawoman · 13/06/2011 18:40

Yes, Milli. DS's words: "It was OK - for Add Maths anyway". Good luck everyone with the rest of the week!

Capiche · 13/06/2011 21:48

dd was a bit down in the mouth about maths..... you never know with her though Hmm

Merrylegs · 14/06/2011 12:03

Well - that's it for DS! Phil and Eth this a.m was his last exam.

Good luck to everyone else.

Thank you, Milliways for this thread. Have enjoyed the support.

Will keep an eye on here and be back on August 25th perhaps (yikes)?!

t0lk13n · 14/06/2011 14:37

DS has Welsh on Thursday, Geography on Friday then an 11 day gap until his AQA Physics on 28th...then we will be done. Hope all have done as well as they can...that`s all us mums can ask for!
He just had History and one of the questions was a dream for him....hope he does well in this one as he wants to do A Level History.

emmspemms · 14/06/2011 17:07

ICT yesterday , very easy and everyone finished early so were able to go early , bit worried that they were only given half the papers ?
He's been out all day on his bike , also a bit worried as he said on Sunday
" mum ,have you seen my geography book ?"
Geography on Friday , and that's one of his choices for A level , nothing today or Wednesday
( take that for me tomorrow though )
By the end of the week it will all be over , and no school til September .
Why ?
