Hi all
I am new to this. I am loving this site.
Has anyone's DS taken an 11+ exam at Whitgift or Trinity this year. We have taken both and have an interview at Whitgift.
Any tips for a first timer.

:) DS if off school today with a sniffle. As he lay with his head on my lap I looked down at him and wiped his nose, he then said "Mum we should hear from W next week, but I am not worried, because I promise if I don't get in I will work hard at some other school and make it anyway", (lump in throat), then I realised that this small bag of bones has already made it through the exams, all the stress I put him under etc, wow maybe he is right, maybe he now just has that work ethic in place that will ensure he does his best. 90% of the time I really want him to go to boarding school as he tests my patience every inch of the way, but then 10% of the time moments like this happen and it blows me away. Blush

@keeping What a lovely boy you have argh Smile
Now kick his but off the sofa and get him to make you a Brew and bring a Biscuit to his poor weary mother who is everso stressed...Grin

kravings · 10/02/2012 14:43

@keeping - My DS has now realised what it means to work hard and achieve the goal. He said to me the other day 'I wish the knowledge I have today, I had that back in September, then I would have definately passed Wilson/Wallington'. He took it a bit easy/laid back in the early stages of going through grammer/indie exams. Now that he has gone through the results and interviews, that he realises how competitive the whole process is.

We have put ourselves and our boys through the stress because we want the best environment for them for the next 7 years.

chin up...one week to go....

frankies69 · 10/02/2012 15:28

@kravings your DS and mine sound so similar, mine too took it easy at the beginning thinking it would all just fall in his lap...still as you say one week to go and we will be celebrating!!!!

Hurry up Friday!!!!!!

SoupDragon · 10/02/2012 15:47

DS2 is very much a "fall into his lap" boy. He was meant to fail Wilsons to give him a kick up the arse but oh no, the smug little git* passed it didn't he. Bah!

I'm so glad that this thread is here! So many of you echoing how we as a family and DS feels, he has also said that he was too chilled out regarding the grammar process, although he did say 1 out of 3 wasn't bad until he made it into a % so although Wilsons is still in the ball park having failed. (Did I say "failed" bad word!) Sutton and Wallington our options started to narrow.

Fell in love with W and trying to stay grounded in order not to stress myself or DS out.

We too are from a state junior school and initially an independent wasn't factored in, we will have 2 DS's in the independent sector (If he gets in!) at the same time....baked beans on toast me thinks.

I keep telling DS that whatever happens he will be fine mainly because we will make sure he is. If all else fails our state option is on the up and we know a fair amount of parents who are very happy with it. We still want W though!

I have everything crossed for all of us! Nearly there. :)

bananadrama · 10/02/2012 16:58

Hi Ladies! Newbie here. I too have been addicted this thread! I am also counting down the days until the outcome of our T application. My DS1 is also from a state primary and this feels like we are coming to the end of a very long stressful road!

We have also been through the trauma of sitting all the Sutton grammar school tests and felt that my DS was not really ready way back in September. Not good timing just after the summer hols and all that. We never intended to go down the indie road either, but here we are.

Reading all your posts has really helped me to get through this waiting game. Not long to go now! Am so hoping that we all have some good news for our DSs next week!

Keep posting ladies - it helps a alot!

frankies69 · 10/02/2012 17:29

help needed I am having a dilemma...I normally work on Friday should I book a day off next Friday and stalk my poor postie? OR go to work not concentrate and annoy the pants off of everyone with my insane whitterings? Confused
someone make the decision for me....Hmm

beanie34 · 10/02/2012 17:57

Do you know your postie well enough to ask him/her to open it and call you??

I seriously thought of doing this.

We have lived here for over 15 years and our postie has been through the stalking process with us already. :)

I'm going to pop home at lunchtime.... and may or ay not go back to work!!

frankies69 · 10/02/2012 18:07

I go to and from work by public transport so lunch time not an option....postie opening letter ummmmmmmm yes know him v well but want to be first to see results

kravings · 10/02/2012 18:21

banana - welcome Smile

frankies - go to work...staying at home makes it worst, going to work may keep your mind off things...and in the evening you can take your DS out for a celebratory dinner for having sailed through W :) - you will forget all the pain and anguish you have been through when you see the offer letter.

Selina · 10/02/2012 18:57

@frankie ... What a dilemma ... That's difficult ...probably would go to work and then instruct anyone who got home before you not to touch or open it til you were present.
My DS was also home today with a cold and told him ..ooh 1 more week and we' ll know ...
He has a friend staying for that part of half term .. Will be fun trying not to go out until after post has come.
dS also sat wilsons/ wallington / Sutton to no avail. He also said he felt on top of things at W rather than the others....
Luckily I have Friday off so will be home doing my sewing on scout/ brownie badge pile buttons etc ... Waiting .....

SoupDragon · 10/02/2012 19:04

Half day off?

Ladymuck · 10/02/2012 19:12

Aren't you all on the ski slopes next week Confused? Surely you've all been doing your pre-slope squats and lunges with all the other Whitgift mothers?

Honestly some of you really need to try harder! You'll open the letter when you fly back on Sunday of course. And then open the champagne. Wine

frankies69 · 10/02/2012 19:14

@kravings - thank you for the words of confidence
@selina - DS sat wilsons/wallington/trinity..to no avail, but we sat for them as tasters/suck it and see's
@Soup - yeah think that is a good idea then I get the best of both worlds and the DC are at their nans so I can open the letter by myself!!!!

ps everyone today is the last Friday of suffering!!!! Grin

kravings · 10/02/2012 19:16

I made DS sit the Sutton Grammar Mock tests so that he could get the feel of exam conditions. Missed Wilson by 2 marks Sad!
My one was on top of things for W and T as well.

SoupDragon · 10/02/2012 19:17

I've gone one better, Ladymuck - The children are all skiing and i am home alone...

kravings · 10/02/2012 19:25

soup - you have the house to your self? we're all coming round for the much anticipated party...time to defrost the flamingoes, peacocks and wallabies Grin

frankies69 · 10/02/2012 19:48

YAY .... a good rave up round Soups!!!!!! Grin

Mine did wallington first after virtually no prep, just a couple of weeks of VR in bond books. He was 14 points off wilsons, but didn't know about the sutton mock tests Sad if we had decided this before September he would've had much more prep!! Still he got the one he really wanted (hopefully) Hmm

SoupDragon · 10/02/2012 21:04

I will sneak out over the weekend and steal the livestock. The tricolour squirrels looked rather tasty as a snack...

kravings · 10/02/2012 21:28

mwaha ha ha...yum Grin

Ladymuck · 11/02/2012 11:50

OK, so I'm using this as a notebook, but for future parents, I see that Worth School informs 11+ applicants of its offers earlier that the Trinity Group schools, so for the really keen it would give you the opportunity to phone W & T early. (I have to face all of this in a future year!)

frankies69 · 11/02/2012 12:25

I am sure they would check with worth that an offer has been made before giving out the information....good idea to keep the thread going for next year ladymuck

Ladymuck · 11/02/2012 12:30

Not so sure that they'd bother. In any event it may be worth applying as apparently there weren't that many boys sitting for Worth, so you'd have a pretty good chance! Depends whether you view that it is worth the £100 and hassle of another test/interview day in order to possibly find out early...

frankies69 · 11/02/2012 15:13

Not for us as our ds must move on in september but for others it definitely worth a try
