Whitgift and Trinity 11+ exams and Interviews

Hi all
I am new to this. I am loving this site.
Has anyone's DS taken an 11+ exam at Whitgift or Trinity this year. We have taken both and have an interview at Whitgift.
Any tips for a first timer.

I think ROyal Russell do late exams - the website says to phone and ask.

Ladymuck · 05/02/2012 17:27

I would expect that if he has been interviewed, then they would have warned you if he was borderline. But no harm in phoning each registrar to enquire. Whilst it may appear that each school is hugely oversubscribed, in practice this is. It the case as most boys are entered for 3 or more schools.

But if W or T are your first choice, and you have a sibling there, I would phone their registrar first as they may be able to reassure you.

I assumed he had not passed the exam if TeToT3 already knows he does not have a place and wants to appeal.

frankies69 · 05/02/2012 18:46

DURR sorry being stupid today Sad it all the stress fuddling my brain!!! I obviously need more Wine

Ladymuck · 05/02/2012 18:48
Blush

Well, definitely ask for feedback, to see whether sitting again in a later year is worthwhile. Cumnor House has a good track record of getting rejected candidates in at 13+. Definitely worth contacting Royal Russell, and Wickham Court too.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2012 18:55

What are we going to do with all free time once the results are released?

Ladymuck · 05/02/2012 18:58

Sewing on name labels I expect.

SoupDragon · 05/02/2012 19:02

Noooo.... you have to pay the dry cleaners wait until the last minute to do those

frankies69 · 05/02/2012 19:22

We looked at Wickham Court, a beautiful building...lovely teachers...only down side was we were taken into a classroom with a young girl who was being given extra tuition and were told Shock Felt sooo sorry for her Sad

I thought it was the great meet and greet and large glasses of Wine for all once this is over Grin

kravings · 05/02/2012 19:44

well - for those whose DSs pass Smile, it will be celebration-shopping-for-new-uniform-time. for those who failed Sad, it will be running-around-like-headless-chicken-looking-for-other/alternative- comprehensive school-time

frankies69 · 05/02/2012 19:47

oh kravings lets hope we are not on the latter list Blush

stresscity · 06/02/2012 22:06

All will be revealed Next Week-yikes!

frankies69 · 07/02/2012 08:33

Another day down 9 to go

stresshead67 · 07/02/2012 13:02

Gosh, first post ever- here goes.. Hope i dont do anything wrong. Ladies i have followed your posts for the last few weeks and they have both cheered me and buoyed me up that someone else is going thru what i am too! Have sat Trinity and nothing else! got as far as interview and that seemed to go reasonably well.. so everything crossed... and trying not to get hopes up! 9 more sleeps! whoop whoop. Thank you all for keeping me sane.....

SWStressed · 07/02/2012 13:13

Ladies, practicalities. Assuming we are all offered places does anyone know how long we have to accept them and how much we are obliged to pay and when?

DontDickensBooksDragOn · 07/02/2012 13:30

You have to pay a term's fees but I can't remember when that becomes due and it is payable by monthly DD. I don't think you have topaz any kind of "holding" fee but once you sign on the dotted line, you are liable at least for that first term's fees.

IIRC, they like to you accept by phone ASAP but you have a little while (couple of weeks?) to send the written acceptance back.

Gunznroses · 07/02/2012 13:43

Well i cant help but get into the Spirit of this, Have not applied to either whitgift or tiffins but i'm definitely rooting for you all when the results come out, there will be lots of lurkers on here, i wish you all the very best.

SWStressed · 07/02/2012 13:44

Don't they have to wait until after national offers day?

SWStressed · 07/02/2012 13:45

gunszroses if you really want to get in the spirit can you lend me a fiver? Just trying to work out exactly how we will pay for fees....

DontDickensBooksDragOn · 07/02/2012 13:50

I don't think you have to accept until after the state school results come out. I think they like you to accept (or not) early so they can work down any waiting list.

Ladymuck · 07/02/2012 13:51

Ds1's Trinity Group school also sends offers on 16th Feb and has a final deadline of Monday 5th March, so I imagine it is common. The schools of course ask for your responses as soon as possible. In practice there may be (pleasant) surprises which cause parents and sons to go back and visit the schools over the two week period.

Gunznroses · 07/02/2012 13:58

Swstreesed yes i could lend you a fiver if that was the fees! Wink

juicy0 · 07/02/2012 14:05

I've been lurking for a while, this is my first ever mn post (so be gentle with me). Competition where I live is no where near as fierce as you ladies are coping with but I can assure you my anxiety levels are just as high! My dd has had an interview and sat 11+entrance exams for gdst school and my ds has done the same but for 7+ at another private school. Both have been in local primary school until now and have loved it but I want more for my daughter than the local high school seems to offer.

So I'm waiting for two letters to land on the doormat which will determine the future of our family life from September onwards. If only I ate less when I was stressed! Instead I am consuming my body weight in cream eggs :(

stressederica · 07/02/2012 14:09

Hi all, I've been following the posts for the last few weeks despite not having the stress this time round as we did it all last year. DS is already having a great time at W. But it's all so engrossing! I can't keep away!
I wish all of you waiting the best of luck and keep the Wine flowing. You'll need it!
SWStressed - Last year, the offers for both T and W landed on our doormat on 11th Feb and we had until the 3rd of March to make up our mind. In its letter, T emphasised the 'exceptionally high demand for places and high calibre of applicants' along with the 'long waiting list' and asked us to ring the school as soon as we'd made a decision before posting the necessary forms.

frankies69 · 07/02/2012 19:26

@stresshead67 welcome on board
@juicy0 good luck to both your DD and DS
@ALL Any excess funds gratefully received!!! ha ha
OMG 9 sleeps and it was me who started the countdown a number of days ago!!!Grin
