How much does a good independent school education REALLY cost?

DP and I are planning on moving to Bristol where sadly the state schools are not doing as well as the independent.

I know roughly primary and secondary school fees where we currently live, but what realistically does it cost to educate a child privately in primary and secondary schools?

Of course fees differ greatly from school to school, but what, roughly, would you expect to pay, with all the 'extras', such as trips and other extra-curricular activities.

Thank you! :)

Thanks everyone, VERY much,

I'm sorry this isn't a full reply but I'm still reading through everything. I just wanted to post so that you didn't think I'd started a thread and then ignored it!

I was looking at day fees for secondary. As central as we can afford in Bristol, which is up to £400k for a house with a good-size garden (we have lots of animals and enjoy an outoor party!), which means that we probably won't be able to afford anything near the centre of Bristol at all! Grin

exexpat, thank you very much for all of your posts on this and the other thread I started. I really appreciate it.

Thanks again everyone! :)

2 dds at prep in nearby herefordshire. dd1 in yr 6 and dd2 in yr 1. current TOTAL fees for a yr = £22, 500 and extras for the yr = £6000 . so total outlay is £28, 500. This includes both girls having 1 private music lesson each per week, dd1 having 3 nights a week boarding and a trips/uniform etc.

dd1 possibly going to Badminton - full boarding seriously bumps up prices. we have looked at approx 12 secondary level boarding schools and prices varied from £ 5,500 to £9,200 per term.

worth every penny
