This has probably been done to death on here but after receiving a letter from the school regarding the next school trip, I was Shock more than ever before!

Basically they want a minimum of £800 for a weeks skiing holiday. If there are less than 50 children going, the price will increase. They will be travelling by coach not flying. They will be staying B&B so will also need money for meals.

On top of that they will be taking the children to skiing lessons in the UK beforehand, and this is also not included in the price.

We will have to buy clothes (salopettes etc) aswell.

Now, this obviously isnt a compulsory trip or anything but how on earth do they expect people to be able to afford this? Where do they get their prices from?!

What about looking on ebay Tequila for some cheap/2nd hand ones? Will be much cheaper

Tequilla, How long in advance are you told/ Is the trip this winter or next one?

I am quite shocked at the amount. I think £800 is a lot of money. I do not really understand the bit about the only occasion for a child from a poorer family to go as I would think it would be absolutely unafordable for a family on a budget (and surely there is quite a few of them arround in this economic climate). We are not poor but I do not think DD1 could go (unless a lot of time to do odd jobs and save money).

The trip is not until March 2012 but we have had to pay £25 to secure her place, £250 deposit is due by 1st March and then the balance by end December 2011. So a fair bit of notice given to save tbh.

mumoverseas, good idea, I never thought about eBay, I was thinking about places like Blacks etc. Will try eBay, thanks!
