My sons are in yr 9 and yr 8.

What levels should they be achieving at this age???

Does anyone know?

Getting a straight answer from their school is akin to blood out of a stone.

Do you mean NFER - reading age etc - or National Curriculum levels?

Reading age is not really something you can say 'should' be achieved. Obviously you would like it to be at or above the child's actual age.

At the end of KS3 the level expected of the average child is level 5, so you would like the Y9 child to be at or near that. Have a look at this website for more information:
