How much do you charge / do you pay?

I have been asked to tutor GCSE Maths. I was wondering what the going rate is currently as I normally tutor friends children and only charge very low rates. This is a friend's colleague and therefore I don't want to sound too cheap otherwise they'll think I'm not qualified!
I live in Wiltshire, not city rates.
Where do you live and what do you pay / or charge? TIA

My wife charges £24ph in Oxfordshire for GCSE/A level.

Thanks - I was thinking of £20 as its just easier to find on a Saturday morning than £22, and I think around us I'd charge a little less than Oxfordshire.

She only recently put her prices up from £20 a few months ago, a move she wasn't certain of. However, since we have paid the local VW dealership £89+VAT (£105) per hour labour to work on our little VW, I considered £24ph to teach someones child very reasonable.

Quite right! Although a lot of pepole would prioritise their car over their children's education!

I charge £25 but am a qualified experienced teacher. That is for GCSE and A level. I am also on Wiltshire.

I pay £20 per hour for English in the North east.

bigTillyMint · 18/11/2010 14:33

DH charged £30 an hour - inner London and he is a highly qualified secondary teacher

I would say at least £25, and that is cheap. The singing teacher charges £35 and that is normal.

I am paying £30 ph for a teacher from Bath, he comes to our home in Wiltshire, and teaches A level maths.

£25 an hour in Glasgow (qualified secondary teacher) but I have a friend who charges £30.
