Just posted this in a different education thread - sorry! Hope to have more luck here.

DS is taking art and is currently looking at work by Lynne Neuman. He also has to find relevant information about her - when & where born etc etc - but he/we can't find anything on the internet! It's not possible to visit the library for a couple of days so please, has anyone got any websites they can suggest that will give background information on artists????

pipl.com/directory/people/Lynne/Neuman

niftyfifty · 28/10/2010 16:16

Thanks 1234 - have tried that one but it only gives details of her work, not any details about the person (not that I can find anyway!!). It must be out there somewhere ... Grin

here

CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 16:18

sorry that is the wrong lynne neuman!

CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 16:19

that is really crap homework. she obv. doesn't give out that info. make it up

niftyfifty · 28/10/2010 16:29

You may be right Cereal - DS could have written the name down wrong! I'll check with him & hope he knows which one it is. It makes more sense if it is lynn-without-an-E cos we sure can't find any information about the other one!

OP posts:
CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 16:30

the only information about the other one i can find is that she is a fairly grotesque painter

niftyfifty · 28/10/2010 16:36

I'm glad it's not just me! He was getting really stressed yesterday trying to find the information ...

OP posts:
CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 16:39

lets make it up for him

'at the age of 5 lynnenewman had a traumatic experience involving a stainglass window and a jar of jam, this has informed her painting throughout her career. '

niftyfifty · 28/10/2010 17:41

I like it! It'd be interesting to see if his teacher actually reads it and what comments she makes ... Grin

CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 17:44

i do think it great that he is being encouraged to look at living artists.

HippyHippopotamus · 28/10/2010 17:45

if the power of mn can't find out anything about her, i'm sure his teacher won't either so i'm another vote for making it up!

niftyfifty · 28/10/2010 18:11

I need DS to come home and decide which Lynn Neuman it is - and make him ensure he gets the spelling right in future!!!!

But if in doubt will make it up Grin

niftyfifty · 28/10/2010 20:05

Quick update if anyone's still there - DS reckons it's Lynne (with an 'E)Neuman! That's the one who does the grotesque paintings that no-one can find any info on... He's adament it's her though, says they've been looking at her work.

That still leaves the problem that we can't find anything out about her - arghhh!

OP posts:
CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 20:10

what does he think aobut making it up?

CerealOffender · 28/10/2010 22:25

yes there are lots of images but no biographical info

niftyfifty · 31/10/2010 13:54

Sorry, haven't been back on the PC till now -have lost the will to live over this I think!

I didn't dare suggest to him that he made it up because he would do that every time given half the chance! Still think it was a brilliant idea though Grin

He's finally done most of it today, despite me nagging him all week, and the place where he found most information was on her shop on ebay!!! We still can't find any biographical info and if his teacher gives him a hard time over it I will ask her exactly where the information is because we have spent far too long trying to find it, with no luck. Mind you, if it turns out he did have the wrong Lynne Neumann written down, I think I may batter him senseless ...

hmmm ... it's obviously catching ... ds's art homework was to find out all about Alison Lambert - very similar scenario ... has just finished but it's rather sketchy to say the least ...

niftyfifty · 03/11/2010 18:43

Hi basildonbond I'll swap you info on Lynne Neumann for what you've got on Alison Lambert for future use Grin DS had art today - when he gets back home I'll ask him if indeed we had the right artist!

pawarmum - thanks for that, we did manage to find info on her work and what/how she paints, but still can't find any biographical details - date of birth etc - perhaps she's just very secretive ...

OP posts:
pawarmum · 03/11/2010 19:20

i have to say, i think that homework set these days veers from far too easy for the child to near impossible without complete input from a parent, what happened to homework that a child could complete themselves with a little research suited to their age. I doubt most of the teachers could even complete the homework they hand out

Good luck to all parents on a quest for artists, math answers and all other homework questions

niftyfifty · 03/11/2010 19:41

Too true! I wonder if it's worth all the arguing and stress involved (in this household anyway) because half the time I'm not sure it even gets marked properly.

OP posts:
gingerali · 04/11/2010 07:07

I'm an Art Teacher and wouldn't give out an obsecure research homework without checking that it was possible first.
BTW I looked at Lynne Neumann and thought her work is horrible
