P.E.

Hi,
i posted about 3 weeks ago regarding a school stopping pupils doing RS. I have now found out that the children can now skive off PE and do history instead.
Is the world going mad. I thought that this was a vital subject for the health and welfare of children.

PE seems essential to me.

I wouldn't mind DD skiving of RS if she could do philosophy etc as AC Grayling suggests. Though I suppose RE is a necessary evil, something kids need educating about.

How does that work? I thought PE nad RS were core subjects.

I think that the new head is trying to raise exam results.
I can understand this BUT.....

If he was trying to improve results he'd be pushing RE gcse, its one of the easier ones to get good grades in cf sciences, MFL

I did Latin to get out of PE back in the early seventies.

I don't see it as a problem if the children dropping it are active outside school. I absolutely hated PE and would have done anything to get out of it - even chemistry, which I loathed! I still used to dance twice a week and cycle 10 miles a week just to get to classes. I also cycled/walked with friends fairly regularly.

OTOH the double lesson of hell frequently involved me vaguely jogging up and down the hockey pitch keeping away from the ball and in summer getting 'out' in rounders as quickly as possible so that I could sit and chat with my mates. Not much exercise really.
